Northcott welcomes the release of the updated Australia’s Disability Strategy, including the new focus on addressing homelessness and housing issues amongst people with disability. Housing for people with disabilities is a basic human right, yet sadly many are living in unsuitable homes that put their safety, well-being, and independence at risk. All levels of government need to work together to create long-term solutions and pathways to accessible housing options that meet the needs of people with disability, respect their choices, and ensure long-term stability and dignity. The updated strategy and new Inclusive Homes and Communities Targeted Action Plan 2025–2027 is a promising first step. #disability #accessiblehousing #inclusion https://lnkd.in/gAxPtUCh

Today marks International Disability Acceptance Day, a powerful reminder of the importance of fostering inclusion, equity, and understanding for all. Disability acceptance means more than acknowledgment—it’s about embracing diverse experiences and creating spaces where every individual can thrive without barriers. As someone deeply committed to advocacy and inclusion, I’m proud to lead efforts through Blautism, Inc., where we provide resources and educational services to support individuals with disabilities and their families. Let’s use today as a catalyst for ongoing conversations and meaningful actions that create a world where differences are celebrated, not just accommodated. #DisabilityAcceptanceDay #LeadershipForInclusion #EquityAndAdvocacy #LinkedInVoices

What better way to test if our Disability: Ask Real Experts (DARE) Workshop resonates with the community, than to have them attend as learners? Being powered by Community Disability Alliance - CDAH means that we commit to collaborating and inclusively co-designing alongside people with disability. This means our workshop remains relevant, draws on a nuanced perspective of disability, and we are able to test and improve where needed. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and with handful of small changes, we are excited to deliver DARE 2.0! #DisabilityInclusion #LivedExperience #DisabilityConfidence #DisabilityAwareness

Did you know that 17% of Victorians are people with disability? Today is International Day of People with Disability. As the Social Services Regulator we work with the Victorian Disability Worker Commission and the Disability Services Commissioner Victoria to oversee some disability services. And we recognise the overlap between the other services we regulate – services addressing homelessness, sexual assault, family violence and services for children – and disability. We know that Victorians with disabilities are more likely to need the support of the social services we regulate. 🔵 Find out more about how we strengthen protections for people with a disability under the new regulatory scheme: https://lnkd.in/eM44sWjX 🔵 Watch the Australian Disability Network's “It’s not hard to be inclusive” video: https://lnkd.in/gs5m44ZT #IDPWD2024 #IDPWD #removebarriers
