Veterans bring unique skills! 🛠️ One of the most rewarding aspects of my role at JobOppO is witnessing the incredible range of skills Veterans bring to the civilian workforce. From leadership and discipline to problem-solving and adaptability, the talents honed during military service are invaluable. Yet, translating these skills into a civilian job search can be challenging. Veterans often struggle to articulate their military experience in a way that resonates with civilian employers. This is where tailored job search tactics come into play. It's crucial to focus on the core competencies developed during service. For instance, leadership in high-pressure situations, project management, and teamwork are universally valued. By framing these skills in a context that civilian employers understand, Veterans can significantly enhance their job prospects. At JobOppO, we emphasise the importance of networking over paperwork. Connecting with like-minded individuals and organisations that value the unique contributions of Veterans can open doors that a CV alone might not. We encourage Veterans to leverage their networks, attend industry events, and engage with communities that appreciate their background. This approach not only increases job opportunities but also fosters a supportive environment for Veterans transitioning to civilian life. What skills do you think are most valuable in the civilian workforce? Share your thoughts below or visit joboppo.co.uk to learn more about how we support Veterans in their job search. #VeteranEmployment #JobSearch #CareerTransition

Employment connections for the Military Community@RecruitMilitary | Event Director | Business Development | Military Transition Mentor | Family Man | Navy Veteran | Fairly Poor Gamer
Don't wait, there IS such thing as too late...what do you mean?? Glad you asked. With over a year now being out of service, and working with #transitioningmilitary along with our #skillbridge candidates, I am floored at the number of folks I speak with that wait so long to start thinking about their transition. A good number of connections here on LinkedIn speak to a number of things military members should key on: Finances: Drop as much debt as possible Network: Build the network now for the later. Informational Interviews: Find out what you don't know Skillbridge: Research and apply early. Financially, everyone has their own story. Where you are is deeply personal, so I'll simply say: Eliminate as much debt as you can, it's one less stress point. Network/Informational Interviews: I myself ping on this one a LOT. The number of success stories I've personally seen lets me know that this is a number one strategy towards your next career goals. Who you know is a thing, like it or not. SO....find people so you KNOW people. Build your network for when you need it in the future, it will be too late to try and build something when you need it now. Skillbridge: I've had the fortune of being a part of many at that come through our Skillbridge program here RecruitMilitary. We offer a robust program developed by Lucas that includes professional development in areas like: Resume building, personal branding, and networking plus so much more. Plan ahead on this though, I still get applications through from people leaving service in under four months. All of it is important, but I never feel like I can stress near enough your number one tool in networking. The earlier you start, the better. I watched a number of people in my own network who have hit milestones in their career where they reached out to the network and received the help they needed. That doesn't work if you do not already have your network built, and ACTIVE. Start early. If you've transitioned, help others. Veterans together can be a phenomenal voice to the next group of transitioning military, reaching them in advance. Let's give them the best tools at the best time possible for success. #veteranshelpingveterans #gladyouasked #skillbridge

Veterans bring unique skills to the workforce 🛠️ As a proud RAF Veteran, I've seen firsthand the incredible range of skills that veterans possess. From leadership and teamwork to problem-solving under pressure, these are qualities that any employer would value. But how do we tailor job search tactics to highlight these diverse skills? Firstly, it's crucial to translate military experience into civilian terms. Many veterans struggle with this, but it's essential for making their skills understandable to potential employers. For example, instead of listing military-specific roles, focus on the transferable skills such as project management, logistics, or technical expertise. This makes it easier for employers to see the value veterans can bring to their organisation. Another key tactic is networking. Veterans often have a strong sense of camaraderie and community, which can be leveraged during a job search. Connecting with fellow veterans, attending industry events, and engaging on platforms like JobOppO and LinkedIn can open doors to opportunities that might not be advertised. At JobOppO, we emphasise the importance of building a network over simply submitting CVs. It's about who you know and how you present your unique skills. Lastly, don't underestimate the power of continuous learning. The job market is always evolving, and staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies can set veterans apart. Whether it's through online courses, certifications, or workshops, showing a commitment to personal and professional growth can make a significant difference. Let's continue to support our veterans in their transition to civilian careers by recognising and promoting the diverse skills they bring to the table. Share your thoughts or experiences in the comments below, or visit joboppo.co.uk to learn more. #VeteranEmployment #CareerTransition #JobSearchTips
