#jobdescriptions are not just for #recruitment
I’ve recently been working with a client to produce / update all their job descriptions.
These new descriptions will serve as a baseline for performance reviews and compensation strategies, and will inform employees exactly what is expected of them in the way of performance. It also helps them understand whether they are successful in their role and what they need to do to be promoted.
So many companies write job descriptions once and then fail to update them as business needs or processes change. It’s essential to periodically revisit your existing job descriptions and make sure they are still relevant and accurate.
You HR Consultancy Ltd. Can help you with your job description review and also offers job evaluation services.
My top tips :
Do:
✅ Keep the job description as clear and simple as possible.
✅ Avoid abbreviations and jargon.
✅ Describe the post, not the person in the post.
✅ Refer to other posts rather than other individuals.
✅ Put in clear accountability which is consistent with other posts on that level.
✅ Give the post a meaningful title. Especially when recruiting, a misleading post title will waste time and resource by attracting inappropriate candidates.
Don’t:
❎ Make the job description so brief and vague that it is not clear what the post holder will actually do.
❎ Make the job description so specific that it limits flexibility and opportunities
❎ Include responsibilities or tasks that belong in another post
