Six things to consider when contemplating a change in employment. 👉 Interest – Are you engaged with the work you do? 😎 People – Do you enjoy the company (pun intended) of those you work with? 💰 Financial – Are you happy with the remuneration you receive for the hours you put in and is there scope for additional earnings? 📈 Career advancement – Is there capacity for progression within your organisation, what opportunities are available to you to mix things up? 🎓 Learnings & Networks – Is your career moving in the direction you want it to? (Learning new skills, exposure to new projects, expanding your network, etc …) 👨👨👧👦 Working arrangements – Remote work, flexible hours, hybrid work – are you satisfied? ❓ Depending on your answers to the above, you’ll make the call on whether a move is what’s required for you. 📞 Perhaps it's worth discussing the above with you manager? #employment #retention #career #change

Forget the idea of natural talent. The majority of people who are considered masters of their craft do so by outworking everyone around them. Not because it's a natural gift. Control what you can control. For candidates in a tough marketplace, this means focus on building the in-demand skills that employers care about and then execute better than everyone around you. I'm not talking about working 100 hours every week. Work smart, and maximize your available time to do impactful things. Focus on outcomes, beat your goals, and be prepared to discuss them when given the opportunity by your employer or potential employers. Not sure what skills employers care about? Ask them. Not everyone will answer, and the worst they can say is no. #upskilling #hiring #careeradvice

For those of you who are #transitioningteachers or are #careerchangers of any kind, when it comes to your next place of employment, I would strongly encourage you to stop focusing so much on “where do I want” and instead focus on “WHAT do I want.” It is, in my experience, far easier to list the aspects you want and use those things to help you determine your next role as opposed to pulling up a list of companies and going from there. Do you want a workplace that is closer to home? List it! Flexible hours? List it! A more independent role versus a collaborative one? List it! Let your wants and needs determine what company or role meets your criteria instead of trying to shoehorn yourself into something that might not be better than what you’re moving on from.
