Can we talk Commodities Risk Managers? The highest demand in asset class is for #Commodities! #Banks, #Hedgefunds and #Commoditytraders are all #recruiting #now! The challenge has always been to find individuals with both a proven experience working with physical products and paper based (inc. derivatives). Having run searches for hedge funds, clearing houses, banks and trading houses in the last 12 months, I can confirm there is a finite set of candidates globally in this space. Key considerations: #Banks: There are a handful of people in a handful of banks. Some sit in the business, others in independent risk. Some Banks have 1st line functions, others don't. Some banks have physical businesses, others don't. #Commodity firms: Often don't differentiate between product control and market risk - you will have to know which are which. #Clearing houses: Also have 1st & 2nd line functions Hedge funds: Limited in number - often without physical exposure In short, it has taken me years of networking, meetings, interviews and referrals to learn this market. This is why I am currently recruiting for roles across the world; Singapore, New York, London and Paris. Economists.... Have you ever had a fund manager reach out to you on Linkedin to say they are thinking of hiring a country specialist and ask to speak to you about it. You set up a call, they ask you to keep it confidential but they ask you lots of questions about China or Brazil etc, end the call and you never hear back from them again? This isn't a rare occurrence. That wasn't an interview, that was the fund manager trying to get information off you for free. Unfortunately, that fund manager probably doesn't have the resources to hire a team of country specialists or buy sell side research and is about to put a big trade on. As the market is tightening and additional resources are not affordable its happening more and more. Be aware: 💡 Check there's a real role - Are they advertising anywhere? ❓ Who is the COO/HR/resourcing contact? if the firm is too small to have one they likely can't hire a country specialist. 😯 If the COO/HR/resourcing contact isn't included there is probably a reason why. ✔ Ask for a job spec ✖ Don't give away too much away in the call. #recruitment #recruiting #macrorecruiting #Macrojobs #Economicjobs

We have multiple mandates in this sector. *Broad demand for VP level candidates with bulge bracket firm experience. *Global investment banks with a strong focus on the mid market are in growth mode. *A percentage of Bankers working with boutiques aspire to join bulge bracket firms due to the perception of more complex deal exposure. * A significant number of candidates quote a lack of work/life balance as a consideration when reviewing opportunities. *At the Analyst & Associate level, a small number of bankers are keen to be considered for overseas postings. New York and London are the favoured destinations.

More clients coming to us with the needs to hire sort of “influencer” type of Portfolio managers especially for Fixed Income - those who have track record of managing products well and getting enlisted onto bank 白名单, widely recognized among distributors and investors as such strategy would significantly help with the level of efficiency of fundraising efforts. With China regulator’s increasingly tightening policies towards constraining PM’s job moves, how recruiters work with hiring firms to sort out the approaches to secure the best PM candidates without having to breach the regulatory rules could be a dilemma - someone in “window period” could be an idea? Or holding your breathe and being patient while tracking star PMs’ product pipelines to ensure moving them around at the first second they become available. The rule of engagement with candidates for recruiters has changed remarkably - someone with deep trust with candidates/clients and plays long games will win at every market turns.
