Getting Executive Help You'd be surprised if you reach out to an executive on your job search, they will likely help you. When you apply for a job, reach out to the most senior executive in that department. For example, if you're applying for a human resources job, then reach out to the chief human resources officer. Find their phone number and leave them a voicemail. Also, send them an email and a message through LinkedIn. You can reach out when you apply for a job or reach out when you see a posting that piques your interest in the job. The point is for you to be BOLD and bet on yourself! So put yourself out there and reach out to executives. You will be shocked at how often they will help you. I highly recommend it. Recruiter Caution for Job-Seekers I cannot tell you how many people have been burned by listening to a recruiter who told them to just wait. Listen, the recruiter's job is to basically find you, get you in front of the hiring manager, and then get a bunch of other people in front of the hiring manager. Because of that they kind of have to deceive you a little bit. They must string you along so that you won't take another job. So don't sit around and just trust whatever the recruiter says because they are not your friend, they are not your coach. They're nice, they really do like you, but it's their job to put a lot of candidates in front of the hiring manager. So that mindset shift should really help you to make sure that you know that you're always selling yourself and you're not just sitting around waiting for the recruiter to tell you what to do. Unbelievably Effective Job Search Executive Attention-Getter During your job search, it's a really good idea for you to do special and insightful work for the company you're interviewing for. For example, during my tough 2020 Pandemic job search I interviewed with support.com. To help me stand-out I created some creative business analysis for them, to highlight new strategy ideas that could help them. This also clearly highlighted how I could help them in that role. I had 2 CEO's respond to me during my job search due to this. It takes some time- but if you KNEW it would get attention, I bet you'd try it. Put in the time, and buckle up! People don't normally do this type of deep, proactive work on a job search! 4 Reasons the Job Search is Slow If you are experiencing a slow job search, here are four reasons why it could be moving so slowly. Number one - The job seeker's LinkedIn is not optimized. Most LinkedIns are not set up to their best job search potential. Number two - The candidates are not doing enough to stand apart from their competition. They're not doing enough to stand out. Number three - The candidates are not using automation and everything they do is manual. This wastes too much time, it's exhausting and you run a high risk of dropping the ball as well. The last reason is that most candidates don't have a job search process. The job search is actually a sales process that should be implemented into your search as such. I designed a webinar that helps solve these 4 problems. I teach how to set up your LinkedIn, set yourself apart, use automation and create a process. To address these key problems go to https://lnkd.in/g-qE_BRS #jobsearch #jobsearchtips #jobsearching #jobsearchingtips #jobhunt #jobhuntingtips #interviewing #interviewtips #jobseeker #jobseekers #jobseekertips

Going Above and Beyond on the Job Search Very few people go truly above and beyond on a job search. If you will- you stand out. Here are five mentalities in my job searches that drove good results: 1.) Outwork every possible candidate 2.) No one is coming to save me 3.) Every interview is just practice, show up, fail, assess, tweak - and show up 4.) Every 40 applications = 1-2 responses so plan success with effort (see #1) 5.) Go beyond the resume and show work samples Since I have had a couple of really hard job searches- I try to help jobseekers however I can! Job Search - Winning Numbers During my job search, I was focused on quality, but also on volume. And I was applying to high dozens or low hundreds of jobs every single week. And that really helped me to make sure I had job interviews the following week. Usually when you apply for jobs in one week, you get interviews the next week. So, I wanted to encourage you because I saw a post today on LinkedIn where someone was saying that they were discouraged because they had applied for 200 jobs over a few months. And I would sometimes apply for 200 jobs in one week. So, I think I want to just kind of encourage everybody that part of your job search challenge may not be that you're not marketable, but you're not in front of enough people. You get a couple of benefits out of applying for a lot of jobs. First, you get more and more polished and second, there's just more opportunity as well. So, apply to high dozens or low hundreds of jobs every single week. How to Ruin a Job Interview You want to know how to blow an interview? Talk about a former employer! I did this in the mid 2020 pandemic when I was laid off. I didn't even mean to, I don't even know what I said that was negative, but I was disqualified for a job that I would have been a good fit for simply because I talked negatively about a prior employer. Listen, we've all been through tough times in our jobs. It's easy to have a situation where you have some negative things to say, but find a way to turn the negatives into a positive. Don't be negative about a prior employer. This makes you look negative in general, which isn't true. They only have a window of time to get to know you, so bring your positive vibe. Job Seekers: Check LinkedIn for Relationships During your interview process, make sure you check on LinkedIn to see if there's anyone that you know that works at that company who might be able to put a good word in for you. And even better, maybe they'll even know the person you're interviewing with, but you want to make sure to check this out on LinkedIn! Go to the company page on LinkedIn that you're interviewing with, and it will automatically show you if there's people that you know that you're connected at that company. This is a great way to make sure that you have an internal person that's pushing for you and that's guiding and coaching you. And frankly, that can also answer your questions. It might not be "all about who you know" - but you certainly want to let your friends or connections help you. Build that bridge to your next job. Continuously Build Your Job Pipeline Do NOT trust that, just because you had a good interview or perhaps you have a couple of job opportunities cooking - that you can relax. No, as gently and kindly as I can say it - you simply cannot trust people to follow up and be completely transparent with you on your job search. So - have a plan to continually add jobs to your pipeline And - have a creative plan to follow up diligently on your "in-flight" job search opportunities, in a way that helps you stand out Do NOT count on "good vibes" and feelings about how things are going. No.. bring a bit of healthy skepticism to your job search and an even more healthy dose of hustle. Good searching! Ping me anytime- absolutely rooting for you.. because I've been there.
