This is an illustration of nonprofit organizations that assist similar populations. This depiction highlights the societal nature of the carceral system. Okay. Enough. The elefante is in the room and we're addressing it. You in leadership with the power to do something about this you know who you are. The wage gap for Latino workers in Philadelphia, especially in nonprofits, is stark. Latinas earn just 54 cents for every dollar paid to non-Hispanic white men. It's time for leadership to address this disparity by tackling the root causes of occupational segregation and discrimination. Economic equity and community empowerment depend on closing this gap. Last month, we celebrated the end of the JPMorganChase Pathways to Economic Opportunities programme, supporting 19 BME-led community organisations and building equity, inclusion and resilience within the charitable sector and improve economic outcomes for Black and Minoritised communities facing racial and economic inequities. The programme included an intentional organisational development strand and was co-designed with the supported organisations, along with delivery partners The Ubele Initiative and Action for Race Equality. "Our Racial Equity in Philanthropy and Fundraising Scorecard is designed to assist institutions and organizations in facilitating conversations about equity gaps. Multi-dimensional, holistic data is integrated into the development of the scorecard, leading to developing a financial blueprint – first by identifying funding gaps based on the data, providing evidence of discrimination/racism, citing recommendations to address racist practices and identifying fundraising opportunities based on those recommendations." –Maia McGill, Founder and CEO of Inclusive Philanthropy Institute Take a look at this clip from Eva's, a Toronto-based organization committed to providing shelter, transitional housing, and health and well-being programming to help youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The Eva's team completed their Racial Equity in Philanthropy and Fundraising Scorecard and identified a $3.6 million funding gap, which could be closed by developing a fundraising strategy using the best practices of inclusive philanthropy. Is this the answer to what underserved communities need to begin creating wealth? There's a wide variety of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs). CDFIs generally fund development projects, including affordable housing and urban retail. They also focus on small business growth, particularly for black and brown business owners. At NJCC, we even have a non-profit that develops properties, creating opportunities for black and brown people to buy their first home. CDFIs are committed to fostering economic stability and growth in underserved communities. There is still time to join Funders Together to End Homelessness 2024 Funders Institute Washington Hilton at Dupont Circle | July 8-9, 2024 Session Highlight: Funder Roles in Supporting Housing Justice for Native People As part of Funders Together's aspiration to be pro-Indigenous, we are connecting the dots between Native self-determination and housing justice. Building upon our previous programming and our experiences at the Native Americans in Philanthropy Conference, we are putting this topic at the forefront of our upcoming Funders Institute. This session will focus on funder roles in Indigenous housing justice. We will explore what it means to "indigenize philanthropy," build authentic relationships with Native communities, and how to support Native people experiencing houselessness. Our speakers include experts on developing housing on Tribal land, working with unhoused Native people in urban areas, and Indigenous-led grantmaking. We will consider the role of land back movements, learn about housing challenges in both urban areas and Tribal land, and gain insights into Indigenous movements and Native-led solutions to housing. 📉 Major news out of Dallas: one of the city's largest providers of homeless services is closing its doors by the end of 2024. They stretched too far during COVID, and now we’re seeing the consequences. This isn't just a one-off incident – it’s a warning for all nonprofits. The forecasted 7% growth in giving for 2024 is highly optimistic; we’ll be lucky to see 2%. It's time to get real. We can't keep placing unrealistic expectations on fundraisers, especially during a recession. Let's focus on what’s achievable and sustainable in these challenging times. Nonprofits need practical strategies, not pie-in-the-sky goals. If a major player in Dallas can fall, any of us could be next. Let's learn from this and plan smarter for the future. 💡 https://lnkd.in/gx_-TJfY #NonprofitLife #FundraisingRealities #SustainableGrowth #NonprofitLeadership #Fundraising #NonprofitFundraising
