"The latest report shows growth in our sector's labor supply as the number of active job seekers jumped sharply in the first quarter of 2024," said Craig Faucette, THRC's chief program officer. "This is good news for employers who are looking to hire and train additional workers for unfilled positions."

I had the opportunity to share my thoughts on labor force shortages with WalletHub. A sneak preview: Why do employers have difficulties in filling employment positions? I think one overlooked factor is the growth in occupational licensing. Occupational licensing makes it illegal to work in an occupation before meeting entry requirements like minimum levels of education and training and paying fees. My research shows that from 1993 to 2012 states on average added licensing requirements for 31 low and moderate-income occupations. Some added licensing for as many as 59. These regulatory hurdles make it harder for aspiring workers to enter the workforce and this is backed up by existing research as well.

An experienced but opinionated recruiter, like you, need one of those in your life! Or do you? I help people be the best at what they do in the best job they can find....
In a recent ONS LABOUR MARKET SURVEY, in Feb 24, (link in comments) this was one of its main points, and I just would like to get a feel in the LinkedIn room. Is this where all the job seekers have gone? It's the 728k pre-pandemic workers we've lost that worries me. I appreciate some have retired, some very sadly have died, but the others? Have they just decided enough is enough? I'm not doing this 9-5 shit anymore? Couple this with all of our lovely Europeans that left and never came back it really tells a story, doesn't it for anyone that is struggling to hire? I'd be interested in your thoughts. Discuss... PLEASE. #recruiters #hiringmanagers #businessowners

Wage pressures are forecast to remain quite difficult, which is why employers should be encouraged to find new and innovative solutions to satisfy and retain their workforce. In addition to this, the number of job seekers hunting for permanent job positions across the UK rose for the 12th month running in February. There were consistently more reports of redundancies in 2023, which increased the number of workers on the hunt for permanent roles. Other reasons job seekers were searching for permanent roles were for security and stability. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d8wq2aj4 #marketinsights #recruitment #payments

While this is good news for U.S. unemployment rates, it makes it challenging for businesses to find qualified candidates. At Mackey Staffing, we know how critical it is to maintain productivity and avoid the costly impacts of turnover.
