How widespread is trauma in Milwaukee? James Dimitri Topitzes, PhD, LCSW, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has studied trauma in Milwaukee neighborhoods with high rates of poverty and crime. In addition to his comments in the video below...he estimates 25% to 30% of residents he and colleagues screened in Milwaukee would be diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – a higher rate than combat veterans. Many trauma survivors are trying to find and keep jobs. That's why JobsWork MKE has created "Bringing Trauma to Work," to help employers understand and manage employees who bring the effects of trauma to the workplace.
