A very thorough overview of what it means to transition to a new CEO role. In reading this, which captures many aspects of the transition, I think of my #CEO colleagues and am full of appreciation for what they achieve! https://lnkd.in/epA-zyDd!

How do leaders manage #change in their #organizations? This sounds like a well-explored topic, and it is! That's why I was thrilled to have an opportunity to create this #podcast with Ilze Lansdell-Zandvoort, DBA, MBA, DC, MSc. of Hult Ashridge. Ilze and I had (what I think was) a stimulating conversation, ranging across both #academic insights and #practitioner experience on this critical topic - after all, whose organization is NOT trying to manage change and #transformation today? Among the questions we examined: ✨ How do managers and leaders explore and understand change at the very outset, when they need to understand to what extent they are even concerned and need to get involved? 🎯 Once these leaders and managers understand what the change is, how do they #engage with it, determine their position and define their approach to leading it? How do they develop a change process? 💪 And as the change starts to pick up pace, how do managers and leaders allow others to challenge them in order to constantly improve and fine-tune the process? How do they ensure that strong #communication supports the change process? I hope you enjoy listening - and carrying on the conversation! https://lnkd.in/e7e4UHpd

In praise of #bureaucracy: do not neglect or underestimate the people doing mundane, highly-regulated tasks. Without taking sides regarding the forthcoming election, I am fascinated to read here about what a #rules_based_system is meant to achieve: #stability and #continuity, and, as a result, #trust in the system of which it is the backbone.

As we ramp up for back-to-school, back-to-work, and back down to earth (after the Olympics - faster, higher, stronger - together), it is always worth taking the time to read Henry Mintzberg.

#Feedback is one of my favorite topics - we all crave it (at least some of the time), and we have all received good and bad (unhelpful?) feedback in our careers. Nice to see that young people are being equipped with thoughtful feedback skills early in their careers (and in their adult lives). Take a look, for a nice summary of what feedback is, what makes it work (or not), and where to learn more.

#Cooperation is a major goal in organizations - we are constantly looking for ways to foster it and to reap the benefits of greater #organizational_health that cooperation brings. Now, for some summer fun and a reminder of your high school biology classes, here is a clever video about cooperation in #nature. What can we learn for our organizations from the way that animals and plants cooperate, across species (a reminder of the fundamental need for #diversity and #inclusion) to achieve greater benefits for all participants in these natural relationships? https://lnkd.in/enuf4aEM

I spent part of this week thinking, as part of a #diverse group, about how we could use our #differences to enhance our ways of working together. So it was interesting to see a (more European) version of this article appear in one of my feeds. I like its simple emphasis on three important ways to help teams turn their diversity into effective #inclusion and #performance: *Set a #frame for any working session that emphasizes sharing ideas, interests, and information (don't jump too fast to decision-making). Ask for others' input. And in the process of sharing information, highlight the value of (learning to #listen to) multiple perspectives. *Practice #inquiry rather than just downloading your insights; learn to ask open questions, including questions to which you really want to find an answer. *Build #bridges: Encourage team members to take time to understand what people #hope to achieve in this gathering; what they believe they can #contribute; and what they #fear might get in the way.

At a time when countries (like France) with a very strong historical record in #healthcare are suddenly struggling with the deterioration of many aspects of the system, this post by Henry Mintzberg is a good reminder that healthcare may be a #public_good but it cannot be managed like a public company. Of even more interest to those of us working in #organization_development and #leadership_development, Mintzberg makes the innovative point that services like this need to be managed not only with good #leadership but also with a strong sense of #communityship. What does that say about the approach we could take to reforming such services? https://lnkd.in/e8AP-yQz

What are the secrets for a long and successful #career? At a time when we are all expecting (and expected) to work longer, #Iris_Apfel leaves a legacy packed with some powerful reminders: *Stay #curious! Keep looking at the world with wide, child-like eyes *Be #frugal - the longer you are in the game, the better it is to know how to manage your resources *Find strength in who you are and where you come from *Take care of your important #relationships - in the end, that is a big part of what #happiness in work and life is really about. Enjoy this tribute rendered to Iris by TheEconomist Newspaper Limited as an obituary shortly after her 102nd (yes, 102nd) birthday. https://lnkd.in/eJXKVrvV
