Big reminder to everyone scrolling LinkedIn today: (read this if you feel like quitting) Last month I landed a big project and got lots of leads. But then, June started really slow. I didn't land any new projects for 3 weeks! I started having doubts about my offer, my prices, my strategy, etc. Until something good happened. I landed a cool project yesterday 🔥 It’s not as big as I would like $$$ But the client’s vision is super aligned with my long-term goals. And I love it! I share this story to remind you of this: Building something on your own is full of ups and downs. There will always be wins and losses. The only things that matters is: - How you push through when things aren’t going your way. - How you prepare for the next down period when you are thriving. This is not a spring; it’s a marathon! And yes, there are many ways to get things right. Whenever I found one I do my best to share it with you. And I plan to keep doing it as long as I can. So, if you are passing through a tough period: Hang in there! Stick to your process. 🚀 𝗞𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗢𝗙𝗙 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 🚀   𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝗻𝗱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯   Dear diary, it was a normal day at work, until “𝘊𝘌𝘖 𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 ...”   𝘾𝙀𝙊: "We need an amazing idea for this year's Kick Off, with full focus on our acceleration plan! We must top last year's!"   𝙃𝙍 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙧 (daaamnn … and now, what to do now? Better than last year? How?!) "Hmm, how about we start the day with a dynamic workshop on time management and expectations, in partnership with GALILEU - Focus on Success?"   𝘾𝙀𝙊: "Excellent! And for lunch, nothing better than pizza to keep the mood relaxed! But we need more! Much more!"   𝙃𝙍 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙧 (it's not even Halloween and I feel like I'm in a horror movie! More? After all the amazing activities we've had throughout the year? I need time...) I've got some great ideas! Don't worry, deadline in two days?   And so it was, I had just two days to plan the kick-off with all the tools our employees needed.   𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭: Turn off Skype notifications 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: Make a to do list 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: Find out from all the team leaders what the needs were   Until … 𝙀𝙐𝙍𝙀𝙆𝘼!!! Hackathons to stimulate creativity, how did I not think of this before? 🤦♀️   𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟰: Organize the hackathons   2 days passed ... 𝘬𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘧𝘧 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 ... now all that's missing is the worst part ... making sure the day goes off without a hitch!   Want to see what happened? Meet *Merry*. Merry was working in corporate tech and was building a side gig, working on networking here on LI and on other platforms to promote her personal brand -like lots of us!! Her most recent review was positive. She was not on a performance plan and she was hitting all of her end of year goals. I’ve used a safe name to protect her (although with how many green open to work circles you may not be able to connect the dots) but I’ve been seeing a lot of this and would love input from my Network. Merry was fired last week because her employer said they no longer saw a commitment from her to be “all in” and that her promotion of a personal brand outside of her full time role was not an “approach” they could support. She was devastated. She felt by building her personal network it was not only helping her 9-5, but providing her with another stream of income to help not only financially but provided her with a creative outlet. All good stuff!! I’ve never seen her ⭐️glow⭐️ as much as she is right now. Here’s my ? to you all - - -Does building a personal brand or a side hustle or a Plan B or even something that may someday be a 9-5 replacement need to be hidden or separated from this or other platforms so not to upset employers? Do employers own our social media brand when we are full time employees? Is it any different than a time commitment for a new parent or someone planning a wedding or coaching their kids baseball team or working towards an MBA or caring for a parent or writing a book or who is an avid golfer/yogi/marathon runner? Each of these activities/hobbies/goals/roles require time and energy that are in addition to a traditional 9-5. Why is one viewed as negative where others are positive or showing a well balanced life? Merry will be fine but is this something that needs more discussion and understanding? We all have 24 hours in our days and what we choose to do with those hours or how efficient we are while doing what we do should be up to us, correct??? I’m teaching my adult children that having multiple streams of income is important and something they should begin building now. What do you think??

Business Week Wrap-up: Been working two full time jobs, and gearing up to take up a third venture. Been mixing my talents, my passion, and my potential -- and it has been a joy and delight at work. Time management, support and self care -- seem to be the key. I often find myself reading and making bold moves and getting better with each move. I feel like for the first time in life, - I am making the best use of my time - I am stretching my limit, because I see the impact I am making and it's endearing - I am least stressed at this point in life. Impact less lifestyle and toxic work environments were sure stressful. To a good work week!!! P.S. The only thing I need to re-align at this point is, investment in the right venture at the right moment. Been a bit slack, with time and obedience. “... and we need to launch this all in the next 90 days.” I was roughly ten days into my new role at Pocus when 🔮 Sandy Mangat told me about the ambitious project we were about to take on with a very aggressive deadline. But I love a challenge. I mean, that’s why I joined a 25-person startup, right? 😅 So, here’s what I did to go from new hire to launching something big (hint, hint 👀keep an eye out next week!) in my first 90 days: 1/ Be a sponge. There’s a certain amount of watching, reading, and listening that you just need to do when you’re onboarding, no matter your level. This is a perfect example of a time when you need to go slow to go fast. Take the time to review internal docs, watch call recordings, shadow others, and ask a million questions. You can only play the new-hire card for so long… might as well make the most of it! 2/ Ship-erate! Shout out to Sandy for really pushing me to embrace this Pocus value. When you’ve got a small team and a tight timeline to get shit done, you can’t get precious with your work. You have to do the marketing version of “build in public.” Write all your silly little ideas down, make an ugly first draft, and (here’s the tough part) share it for feedback — even though you know it isn’t perfect. 3/ Get ruthless with prioritization. You can have it all, just not all at once. There’s a lot we wanted to do with this launch. But we had to be strategic with the order in which we tackled each piece of the puzzle. Create your blue sky launch list first, then get realistic about what you can do in the time you have and put the rest in a backlog As a bonus, holding back some content gives you plenty of fodder for the following weeks to keep momentum high. (Thanks to Tamara Grominsky for engraining the power of the “rolling thunder” launch in me!) I’m really excited to share what we’ve created next week, but in the meantime, I’d love your hot tips as I head into my *next* 90 days. Are you Worth it? It is the end of the working week for most of us. Some of us may need to work tomorrow. Either way, it has been a long week and maybe a long day. If you have some wins or achieve some objectives, congrats! If not, it is all right. You are still alive to make a difference tomorrow. End of the day, whatever sacrifices you have made or hurdles you have jumped over, or perhaps there were some @$$es that you needed to kiss, they are going to be meaningful. You have done a lot to bring food to the table or cover your expenses. You deserve some rest because you are worth it. I am sure the husband wouldn't mind because his family is worth it. I always wonder if I would have launched Moment for Parents had I not been laid off. I had been stewing over my vision and ideas for months. I wanted to create a safe space for parents to share and process what’s really going on — beyond the Instagram-filtered lens. The hope was that this would allow parents to find more self-compassion and lower the bar for asking and receiving help. The night before I was laid off, I spent 90 minutes weighing the pros and cons with my partner. I concluded that I’d give it another month. Maybe I would be reinvigorated in my role? Maybe it’s worth keeping my salary a little longer? When the COO shared the news, I was shocked and devastated — I had never been laid off before. At the same time, it made sense… Few sales were coming through, and I was responsible for customer implementation and success. I had space to dream because I was completely underutilized. As I left the office, I felt utter joy! I could finally turn my ideas into life! If I could go back in time, I would tell myself: ⇒ You’ll be a better parent because the energy you get from doing work you love feeds into the energy you can offer your family. ⇒ Giving up a predictable salary is terrifying, and it’s worth digging into your mindset about money and grappling with the narratives that fuel these fears. ⇒ It will be hard AF, but you will grow in ways you never would have expected. Resilience is built by doing hard things. Whenever I feel stuck as a founder (or a mother), I reflect back on the joy I felt the day I was laid off.
