Over 113,000 of these children are eligible for adoption and they will wait, on average, almost three years for an adoptive family. We work with several agencies throughout the country to connect these children to an adoptive family. By keeping track of data, these partner agencies can connect the children and family together. There are many heartwarming stories about how keeping track of data can accomplish this goal. Christopher's Kitchen started out as an idea for a food pantry, but we've expanded to so much more. We have pantries on different units of Children's Hospital that families can access anytime as they please. But it doesn't stop there! When families are in the hospital with their children, it's quite common to see that parents and caregivers don't want to leave their child's side. This is especially true for units like the PICU (Pediatric Intense Care Unit) where patients here are in more critical care. So, the white bags you see pictured are wheeled around on a cart on these units so that caregivers don't have to leave their child's side. Each white bag is packed with enough food to fully feed 1 caregiver. The red bags, however, are take-home bags. Each red bag is packed with enough food to feed a family of four a meal. Many times parents at the hospital have other family they need to take care of at home, and without the time or even financial ability to run to the grocery store, these meal bags come in handy. The red bags are also taken to community outreach centers and delivered to families in need there, too. Sonor Foundation delivers funds through impact challenges, and the next 3 years of funding will be based on this Impact Challenge. Does your organization work with kin communities engaged with the child institutionalization system, systemically known as the Child Welfare system? Do you have a program idea that would enable young people in the system to connect with kin to build strong and empowering relationships? Kinship caregivers are the least supported caregiver population with little resources compared to adoptive parents, foster parents, etc. This area is an important gap that impacts young people.
