Today our Tanzania Early Childhood Education and Care (TECEC) team had a home visit where we found children immersed in play. Play and learning are inseparable in early childhood, but their importance often goes unrecognized. Play is not merely a pastime; it is vital for a child's development. Through play, children develop problem-solving, creativity, and social skills. We advocate for recognizing the value of play. Let's raise awareness about the significance of play in early childhood and ensure every child has the opportunity to play and explore freely. #PlayAndLearn #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #PowerOfPlay

The most important aspect of early childhood education is its reflection of the gifts and abilities that young children bring to the learning environment. Children's experiences are the foundation for early conceptual knowledge, supporting more complex learning in later grades. It is important to incorporate the traditions, norms, and indigenous ways children encounter daily in their early care and education. Early Childhood Education Ethiopia advocates for the inclusion of local, community, and indigenous curricular activities in children's daily instruction. #earlyeducationethiopia #indigenousearlyeducation #assetbasedinstruction

Homeschooling is gradually being embraced in Africa, with many families exploring this educational path. In Kenya, homeschooling is recognized and regulated, gaining popularity among both expatriates and local families seeking flexible education options. Recently, I spoke with a friend who shared her perspective on homeschooling: "In my opinion, homeschooling is a much better option than conventional schooling. It saves on fees, allows for a more customized learning pace, and provides more one-on-one interaction between teacher and student, giving children more attention on challenging areas. It also eliminates the need for early morning school bus pickups, making homework more manageable. Research shows that homeschooled kids often become more confident, as they experience less bullying, comparison, and peer pressure." Of course, like any educational choice, homeschooling has its pros and cons. One of the main challenges is regulatory: in some African countries, homeschooling is not well-regulated, raising concerns about the quality and standardization of education. However, despite these challenges, there is a growing demand for homeschooling information and options available to parents. It's an evolving landscape that many are keen to explore.

Despite primary education being free and compulsory, a staggering number of Nigerian children are not in school. Only 61% of children aged 6-11 attend regularly, and just 35.6% of preschool-aged children receive early childhood education. This highlights the need to address various challenges, including limited resources, shortage of teachers and cultural barriers. #youthpartyng #education #nigeria #outoftoschool
