Berggruen Gallery is proud to announce an exhibition of recent paintings by Tom McKinley. This show marks the artist's ninth solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition will be on view from August 1 through September 19, 2024. The gallery will host a reception for the artist on Thursday, August 1 from 5 to 7 PM. McKinley’s newest paintings transition from depictions of interiors or architecture into pure landscape. In 'Morning August 1st,' the bows of fifteen boats point toward the open expanse of a body of water as rolling hills drape the scene’s outer edges. A scenic horizon rises above the water, mirroring the pattern of its light. Much like his architectural paintings, 'Morning August 1st' demonstrates a profound talent for creating visual unity that is apparent throughout McKinley’s career, now updated to a include sublime vantage. 'Tom McKinley,' August 1 – September 19, 2024. On view at 10 Hawthorne Street, San Francisco, CA 94105. #TomMcKinley #BerggruenGallery Artwork details: Tom McKinley, 'Morning August 1st,' 2024, oil on panel, 49 x 97 inches

Art Nouveau Art Nouveau (Turkish: New Art; French pronunciation: [aʁ nuvo]) is an art movement in which elegant decorative ornamentation, curves and floral patterns are frequently used. Its roots can be traced back to the London-based Arts & Crafts Movement. It influenced Europe and America. Effective in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this movement was called New Art or Art of 1900 in Turkey, as well as regionally in many European countries, and changes were seen in the qualities of the applications in accordance with the names. Modern Style, Yellow Book Style, Fin de Siècle Style, Jugendstil, Secession Style are examples of the names used regionally. In the early stages of the movement, developments in architecture are more evident. It was also known as Floral Style (Natural Style), Style Coup De Fouet (Whipstroke Style) and Style Anguille (Eel Style) due to the exaggerated baroque style-like decorative ornaments and decorations used. Historical development William Morris, a member of the Praeraphaelite group, influenced by the English aesthete and historian John Ruskin, who defended the gothic art of the Middle Ages, believed that happiness could be achieved through manual labour and that the working class could reach the joy of life through such work. He was of the opinion that the machine, which intervened between man and matter, and thus industrial development, destroyed beauty. I made architectural drawings in my work. The programmes I used were SketchUp2023 and V-Ray. #SketchUp2023 #V-Ray #Architecturaldrawing #3Ddrawing #Rendering

Outside/IN | Snaige Sileika | March 27 – April 14 | https://lnkd.in/giyBZ8Xh | Opening Reception: Saturday, April 6, 2 – 4 pm Outside/IN is an exhibition that explores two contrasting worlds. The first consists of the private, urban interior spaces that are filled with intimate objects of our daily lives. The second is the remote, outside world – distant and vast. It was the architecture of the Propeller Gallery that influenced the structure of this exhibition. When walking into the gallery we see an “exterior wall” that defines the entire gallery’s perimeter. Within this large space is an “interior wall” – smaller, truncated dividing the gallery in half. So this led me to think: “exterior versus interior” or the outside world – seemingly endless – and our inside world where we curate and display chosen objects. All of this artwork began with sketches that remained prominent throughout my painting process. They are used as a framework for images that stress the interplay of lines and coloured shapes – hovering between recognizable objects and abstract compositions. And so this exhibition is made up of two distinct series: a ribbon of landscape encircling us on the exterior walls and small, still life paintings displayed on the interior walls – Outside/IN.

WHAT IS DECORATIVE ART? This Art Glossary contains an inventory of key terms & phrases associated with Art History, Movements, Design & Contemporary Art Market Economics—
What Is Decorative Art? | Seed Gallery The term "decorative arts" refers to arts or crafts that are both ornamental, functional as well as beautiful. Furniture, metalwork, fashion, textile designs, glassware, ceramic art, woodwork and jewelry, are among the most important decorative arts. Decorative arts also include objects that are made for the interiors of buildings, and interior design, but not usually architecture. While fine art refers to a work of art created purely for aesthetic or intellectual purposes, hence associated examples like drawing, music, photography, sculpture, poetry and paintings stimulate a conscious and emotional reaction and engage the intellect, decorative arts are concerned with the decoration and design of objects that are primarily prized for their utility or usefulness rather than their aesthetic qualities. The Seed Gallery Art History and Economics Glossary contains a resourceful inventory of key terms, phrases, and relevant vocabulary associated with art and design history, movements, contemporary art market economics and design concepts. Shiroi Mono 180x122x18 cm A white minimalist work exudes simplicity and serenity. The emphasis is on the purity of white and the tranquility it evokes. No matter how austere it appears, my work will never be “polished” or too perfect. It exudes the imperfections, different subtle textures or tones that are crucial to the soul of this work, creating a refined dynamic. The emptiness and lack of decorative elements invite the viewer to focus on the space itself and the silence it evokes. Through the visual minimum, the maximum is achieved. In the main entrance of a serene high-end residential project we recently completed, we faced a sculptor's vision overshadowed by darkness, the unique problem of 'How to perfectly light art in outdoor spaces.' Architects and designers often grapple with this, where the delicate interplay of light and shadow becomes our canvas. The struggle was clear: enhance, don't overwhelm. The change came with carefully considering angles and intensity, creating a soft luminescence that cradled the sculpture's contours. The spark was found in the strategic placement of projectors and flood fixtures, which sculpted the light just as meticulously as the artist had sculpted the face. The result was a dance of light and form that breathed life into metal, transforming a static sculpture into a dynamic experience as day turned to night. The lesson? Lighting outdoor art is not just about illumination—it's about honoring the artist's intent and creating an emotional dialogue between the art and those who encounter it. #codelumen #lightingdesign #lightingdesigner #architecturallighting #lighting #architecture #art #outdoorart #outdoorlighting

The origins of picture framing can be traced back to ancient Egypt, around 100 A.D. Early frames were used not just for aesthetic appeal but also for practical purposes, such as preserving and protecting precious artifacts and artworks. These early frames were often simple wooden structures, crafted with great care to complement the significance of the piece they enclosed. 🎭 Fast forward to the Renaissance, and picture frames began to take on a life of their own. As art flourished, so did the craftsmanship of frames. During this period, frames became more elaborate, often adorned with intricate carvings, gilding, and other decorative elements. Frames were no longer mere supports; they became extensions of the artwork, enhancing its beauty and impact. 🏆 The Baroque and Rococo periods brought even more extravagance to picture framing. Frames from these eras are known for their opulent designs, featuring lavish ornamentation and bold, sweeping curves. These frames were designed to draw the viewer’s eye and highlight the grandeur of the art within, reflecting the ornate tastes of the time. 🌳 In contrast to the opulence of earlier periods, the 20th century saw a shift towards simplicity and minimalism in framing. As modern art movements emerged, so did the need for frames that complemented the new styles. Sleek, understated frames became popular, allowing the artwork to take center stage without distraction. 👩🏼💻 Today, the art of picture framing continues to evolve, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. From sustainable materials and UV-protective glass to custom digital designs, framing has become an art form in itself. Whether it’s preserving a historical piece or showcasing a contemporary masterpiece, the right frame enhances the artwork’s story, adding depth and context.
