Its just above a month before we welcome this year's Circular Lighting Live - coming down London way on 9th October. So what's new? The shift towards a circular way of producing product is necessarily slow and grinding - but the indications all suggest that we're headed in the right direction. But the question that we all need to be listening out for - and perhaps offering it up from the floor - is how manufacturers intend to respond (and preferably much more quickly than their circular design and manufacture processes) to a new compliance environment, where greenwash meets potential litigation when the claims turn out to be so much BS. So, I'll see you there. https://lnkd.in/eKsDSdhn

Any idea what’s the best environmental mark? Lighting brands are signing up to a bewildering array of environmental marks, including B Corp, EcoVadis, Planet Mark, Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and good old ISO14001. But which is best for genuinely assessing your sustainability? And which programmes resonate with customers and specifiers? These are the questions that the Lighting Industry Association (The LIA) and Recolight have set out to answer in next month’s Net Zero Lighting 2024 conference. Speaker Bob Bohannon, head of policy and sustainability at the LIA, will compare and contrast all the popular environmental accreditations. The one-day event – hosted by the LIA and Recolight – takes place on Thursday 2 May in London and will explore the practical steps that they can take to reduce the carbon emissions of all parts of their operations, The one-day conference and exhibition will bring together a range of experts from both the lighting industry and other sectors to advise on best practice in the journey to ‘net zero’. How can manufacturers tackle the responsibility of the carbon footprint they generate while making luminaires? What measures can help them reduce their impact on the climate? What are the priorities, the ‘quick wins’ and real challenges? How can we cut carbon, energy use and waste without compromising quality or customer service? These are some of the questions that the organisers are promising to answer. • Read more: Link in the comments • The Circular Lighting Report is powered by Recolight

Beginning of a new week and Styjl Above Acoustics has taken yet another step towards sustainability... By defining a number of standard color options for our Standard+ range, we will be able to reduce CO2e by - Being able to produce our color tint packs in a more efficient way. - Being able to optimize shipping of color tint packs. - Being able to produce samples in a more efficient way, with less waste. - Being able to re-use previously made samples that are returned from clients. Did you know that a small sample of A4 size, specially made for a client and sent by express delivery with for example UPS, will emit just less than 4 Kg of Co2e? These efforts makes a difference! https://lnkd.in/dVUTyWfR

With many lighting manufacturers touting more sustainable materials or processes, we're highlighting some of our news and features on programs and initiatives that can help guide the industry toward stackable changes that will meet #circularity, #decarbonization, and #wellbeing objectives. Enter the #TM66 Circular Economy Assessment Method. Despite its lengthy name, the metric boils down the cradle-to-cradle performance of a light fixture to weighted criteria that (1) help manufacturers determine a path to implementing circular economy principles and (2) aid specifiers in comparing products against customer requirements.
