What's the one thing we usually want at work? P.R.O.M.O.T.I.O.N. Somewhere in our career, there'll be a time when we have outlived our current position and in clear need of expansion, take on bigger responsibilities and leveling up within the organization. In a really good organization, career progression is clear and most likely you know exactly what needs to be done for you to go up the career ladder. Great companies usually are more particular in guiding their talents about career progression, and you can see approach during: 🗣️ Guided 2 Way performance appraisal and catch up sessions with team leads/managers that focuses not only on KPIs but also personal growth. 🎤 Staff Engagements such as team talk or townhalls on performance, career talks, succession planning 📑Training or development program to help enhance both technical and people skills for their team preparing. 💪Team bonding (formal / social) sessions that allows people within the organization to have better working relationships to avoid silo mentality, create a great support structure for each other, improved collaboration and overall quality of the working environment, ie positive working culture. Of course, that's from the perspective of an organization creating the right framework and support for their people to progress in their career. What can we do as a person to ensure that we are on the right path forward? And how do we ensure that we are climbing up the ranks effectively? This month we would like to share with you our 'Top Tips for a GREAT Career Conversation': • Wherever possible, listen to your colleague’s thoughts about their career, and encourage them to make the most of the skills and talents they have. • It’s your colleague’s career, so keep your opinions about what they should do to yourself, unless asked. • If asked for your opinions, invite your colleagues to reflect on their prime skills and interests, and then the two of you could consider potential development routes. • When colleagues lack confidence in their abilities, help them see that their capabilities open up opportunities they may not have considered. • Encourage people who lack confidence, but are very capable, to undertake some personal development to build up their sense of what they can achieve. • Try always to help colleagues see that there are many routes to a successful career - if one route doesn’t seem to be working, they can try another.
