As you can see the LTPAC Health IT Collaborative (Founded in 2005) is leading the way in assisting LTPAC Providers to understand how our providers and professionals fit in the Spectrum of Care. Even through our sector was left out of the 2009 HITECH Act Meaningful Use funding we continue to work with CMS and CMS with us to ensure our members understand the regulations. The LTPAC Collaborative was formed when then Secretary Thompson held a Press Conference in 2004 to Announce President Bush's Executive Order to Digitize Healthcare and establish the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). The Press Conference focused on Acute Care. During Q&A I asked Secretary Thompson to also include Long Term Care ( At the time I was EVP of American Health Care Association (AHCA/NCAL). He responded by saying Okay, John you coordinate LTC. Along with Michelle Doughertry, and Peter Kress we formed the LTPAC Health IT Collaborative in 2005. We knew the membership had to have representatives of all Professionals, Providers, Vendors, and Government as members in order to represent the Person/Patient as they moved through the Spectrum of Care. As stated we have met weekly for almost 20 years. We have sponsored over 15 Summits and wrote parallel Strategic Plans with ONC for our Market Segment. We have had members on each of the IT Federal Advisory Committees since the passing of the HITECH Act in 2009. Starting with my membership on the Federal Advisory Committee on Standards for 6 years and replaced by Terry O'Malley, MD Harvard Partners. It has been an upward battle to establish the LTPAC Spectrum of Care as a major provider for post acute and senior care since this sector was not included in the incentives to digitize healthcare provided by the HITECH Act.
