Greg Abbott wants his state to quit falling behind on school choice, and last month when he called a 30-day special legislative session on education freedom, he promised to convene another one if lawmakers failed to act. Isn’t Texas supposed to be the land of the free and brave? Apparently not when it comes to education. Some GOP legislators in the Lone Star State have bowed to the teachers union and scuttled a bill to expand school choice, but they could pay a political price for it.Texas is a rare GOP-led state with no school-choice programs, but Gov. Today Fair Agenda joined with other women’s safety advocates to express disappointment and despair at the government’s decision not to properly fund domestic, family and sexual violence services again in this budget. After last night’s budget, specialist domestic and family violence services, sexual assault services, legal assistance services, perpetrator intervention services are all still not adequately funded to meet demand. We welcome investment in the Leaving Violence Program, accommodation, and structural reforms. The investment in student safety at universities is particularly a critical transformative reform, and we celebrate that. But we need to see these structural changes matched with investment in service supports victim-survivors rely on as well.

⚖️We find ourselves in the year 2100, where justice is accessible to all, our justice system is effective and functional, with no court backlogs, delays, or creaking courts. Our society is blind to socio-economic status, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexuality, age, religion or any divisive or discriminatory factors. However, the sheer reality is that we are in 2024, where the scales of justice are often tipped by the weight of privilege, and our legal infrastructure is in need of CPR, leaving many without the means to access their fundamental rights. The scarcity of access to justice has never been as pronounced as it is today. Alongside inaccessible healthcare, a growing educational achievement gap, decaying housing, increasing social inequality, and the failure of successive governments to invest in our fourth emergency service—the justice system—instead starving it of vital resources. This has led to an edifice of injustice and misery for many. The reality is the failure to sustain access to justice has received little or no attention from the media or public. It’s time to change this. The public and media must understand the severity of the issues that are currently challenging justice in this country. In our clearest message to our politicians are found in the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "justice cannot be for one side alone, but must be for both." #makejusticework #publiclegaleducation #justice #ruleoflaw #accesstojustice

It grants me the permission to do what I do without any fear of Governmental repercussions. I would never write or say such vile and ignorant stuff like that --- no matter the length of my disagreement with any person. Disagree, walk away and work for positive change. 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕱𝖎𝖗𝖘𝖙 𝕬𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖉𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖙 𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖉𝖘: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. However, threatening the president of the United States is a 𝐟𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐲 under United States Code Title 18, Section 871. It consists of knowingly and willfully mailing or otherwise making "any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict great bodily harm upon the president of the United States". This 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐞 what we want at the head of our children's school board. We can learn to disagree and do so with decorum and dignity ... but this? Those who espouse stuff like this ... and sadly, on the far right I know there are countless millions who echo this woman's words ... These kinds of words and actions are from people that are not well in their mental executive capacities. Trusting relationships power individuals to develop and achieve. Even more so for our most disadvantaged young people It was great to hear Bridget Phillipson talk about relationships with young people, parents and families. Reestablishing them and supporting them to flourish. Relationships bridge talent and potential with opportunity. A new year brings a fresh motivation to ensure this year is better than the last. First sign of madness is to repeat the same approach and expect a different result. We have fantastic people working in education but the system does not allow them to practice why the joined or support the profession. Learning is human, not just a right but determines job choices and life chances. It is time for a change. It is time to have education and the love of it centre stage. In policy and in practice.
