🚢 Drought Shrinks Mississippi River, Threatens US Food Exports The ongoing drought across the central United States is causing the Mississippi River to shrink, leading to soaring barge rates and potential disruptions in the shipment of essential goods like corn, gasoline, and steel. The low water levels are forcing barge companies to limit the load on vessels to prevent grounding, which could significantly impact the profitability of farmers and other industries relying on this critical waterway. This situation underscores the vulnerability of global supply chains to extreme weather conditions. John S. Very often when trading people rely on data that doesn't reflect details of what's really happening. One of the examples of lately is the media pushing a story of dryness in Brazil. Yes, when you sum the rainfall you will get a deficit in some regions. Which is far from using the word drought. The right way to approach it is crossing the fact (less overall rains) versus what the fields are showing us, how it impacts or not the final results. To me, humbling speaking I was never a believer of a crop above 2020 and if all things were okay it would be similar. Now that it's not okay, we will most likely reach a 68/70mi bags total crop even with less rains. Why? Soil moisture, area expansion, pruning recovery after frost, proper use of fertilizer, and rainfalls WHEN they were most needed (Oct and Jan). As I said before, one did all the math, crossed all measures of rains, now it's time to spend a couple of thousand dollars and see the trees conditions/potential very close in a field trip and stop using the binocular. #roundtheclockcoffeebrokers #cazarinitradingcompany #escoladocafe #agriculture #commodities #agro #coffee #farming #logistics #foodsecurity #coffeelovers #cafe #harvest #safra #greencoffee #climatechange #environment #kahve #caffe #cupping #grading #kaffee #weather #cafesdobrasil #sustainability #coffeetour #crop24-25 #crops #kzacoffee

"The Mississippi River is suffering from low waters for the third straight autumn, a crucial time of year when American farmers rely on the route to deliver their crops to the world. Months of limited rainfall — with few chances for more during the rest of the season — have left the vital waterway so shallow that barges are starting to run aground, even after shippers started running lighter loads to prevent boats from hitting the river bottom... During the best of times, nearly two-thirds of US crop exports are shipped on the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico." https://lnkd.in/gPNUy-yW #armycorpsofengineers #barges #bushels #climatechange #corn #crops #draftrestrictions #drought #droughtmonitor #lowwater #mississippiriver #missouririver #ohioriver #rainfall #shipping #soy

Drought is a challenge that many parts of the world face, but the UK is posed with the opposite: too much rain. 🌧️ The UK experienced the wettest 18-month period since records began. Heavy rainfall caused major problems for farmers leading to lower harvests of important crops by approximately 20%.🌾🚜 Coupled with the shortage of supply and the need to depend on imports, the UK food prices are likely going to push upwards. 📈 The NFU (National Farmers' Union) is advocating for increased support to protect farmlands, as current resources may not be sufficient to ensure crop security. 🌱 What strategies/tools can farmers bring into their arsenal? 🤔 #farming #challenges #agriculture #BarclayHamp

Drought can affect crop prices, freight costs and overall availability resulting in significantly negative direct and indirect economic impacts to the agricultural sector. Drought can also contribute to varied rates of carbon, nutrient, and water cycling—which then impacts agricultural production, critical ecosystem functions and the livelihoods and health of farming communities. Right now there are many places with excess moisture and farmers can’t get their crops in yet, hereby delaying harvest as well. Other parts of the country are so dry they can’t grow what they need. A poor corn crop would increase feed prices, which are passed to consumers through the price they pay for beef at the supermarket. Drought also impacts port and waterway transportation and supply chains also resulting in increased transportation costs. Any increased shipping costs would then be passed on to consumers, resulting in higher retail prices for goods. https://lnkd.in/g7qjD5U #agribusiness #farmers #supplychain #ecosystems

Balancing Act: Rain Eases Drought in Spain, But Hail Wreaks Havoc on Kaki and Citrus Crops In the past week, Spain experienced a mix of beneficial rain and destructive hail, creating a complex scenario for farmers in the Valencia region. While the rain helped replenish reservoirs and groundwater levels, it also resulted in severe hailstorms that inflicted damage on 1,500 hectares of kaki and citrus trees in municipalities such as Picassent […] https://lnkd.in/e2SEwHWT

The #drought in Brazil continues to make headlines. The situation can be quite misleading, and it is important for those who have an #agricultural interest in #Brazil to keep it all in the right perspective. The longer the below-normal rainfall lasts the more serious drought status can become. At the same time, though, crop production can continue to do well as long as timely rainfall and seasonable temperatures prevail. → https://ow.ly/PSsP50Tow87 #agribusiness #grain #oilseeds #soybeans
