✈️ Global Airfreight Market Sees Eighth Month Of Double-Digit Demand Growth The global airfreight market is experiencing a remarkable period of growth, with demand increasing at double-digit rates for the eighth consecutive month. According to industry experts, this surge is driven by robust e-commerce volumes and a strong recovery in air cargo capacity. However, the imbalance between fronthaul and backhaul routes, particularly from the Asia Pacific region, poses cost challenges. Despite these concerns, the market’s overall health is described as “spectacular,” with capacity utilization rates reaching new highs. This development is highly relevant to John S. Increased interest in sea-air services has emerged amid the ongoing Red Sea crisis, with forwarders like Kerry Logistics noting growing demand for alternatives to ocean shipping. Sea-air solutions offer faster transit times and cost savings compared to conventional air or sea freight. With sea routes via the Suez Canal facing delays, airfreight forwarders must adapt to shifting demands. Analysts anticipate a surge in sea-air shipments, possibly via Los Angeles, as a more cost-efficient option. This trend underscores the importance for airfreight forwarders to monitor market dynamics closely and prepare for potential disruptions in traditional shipping routes.

𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐚-𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 1. Customer Inquiries for Alternatives: The airfreight sector has not witnessed a substantial rise in demand related to the Red Sea crisis, but customers are actively inquiring about alternatives to sea transport. Concerns about potential disruptions in supply chains have led to increased interest in contingency plans, such as sea/air and railway services. 2. Supply Chain Flexibility: Customers moving goods from Asia to the US East Coast, traditionally using the Suez Canal route, are exploring alternative routes. Some are switching to the US West Coast and utilizing intermodal (IPI) or transloading services. The industry is observing flexibility from customers, accepting longer transit times via the Cape of Good Hope. 3. Contingency Plans and Inquiries: Customers are actively pursuing contingency plans, including sea/air via Dubai to Europe, railway transportation to Europe (preferably avoiding the route through Russia), and direct airfreight services into Europe. Although there is a surge in inquiries related to these alternative services, concrete demand has not yet materialized. 4. Economic Considerations: Despite the availability of alternative modes, ocean freight remains the economically viable choice for many customers. Inquiries currently focus on logistics cost calculations as businesses explore alternative solutions to fortify their supply chains. 5. Lull in Demand and Future Expectations: The airfreight sector is currently experiencing a lull in demand, and customers are not urgently shifting orders to alternative modes. The prevailing trend suggests a preference for maintaining the status quo with ocean freight via the Cape of Good Hope. The situation may change in the long term if the Red Sea crisis persists, potentially leading to a shift from ocean freight to sea/air and airfreight. 6. DSV and Scan Global Logistics Perspectives: Companies like DSV and Scan Global Logistics report that, despite inquiries about alternative solutions, they have not observed a notable increase in airfreight demand due to the Red Sea crisis. 7. Airfreight Rate Trends: The Baltic Air Freight Index, calculated by TAC Index, has slipped further, indicating no immediate surge in airfreight rates. The disruption to ocean shipping in the Red Sea has not yet translated into higher airfreight rates. #Airfreight #SupplyChainDisruptions #RedSeaCrisis source: https://lnkd.in/ebzcVpSq

Due to Red Sea troubles, shipping companies are considering using air freight over ocean routes. There are long detours, chaos at ports, and not enough containers. To stay on schedule, some ports might get skipped, making things worse. Returning empty containers to Asia is slow, causing inventory strains. Despite airfreight being pricier, it might beat holding excess inventory. EP Logistics can help your business switch from ocean to air shipping. Kerry Logistics has reported increased interest in its sea-air services, mirroring reports of growing enquiries for alternatives to ocean shipping due to the Red Sea crisis. The Hong Kong-headquartered forwarder said that its sea-air and road-air services across Eurasia have recently garnered increased interest. The company said that its sea-air solution transports shipments from Chinese seaports to European airports within 16-21 days and is around 40% cheaper than conventional airfreight and 40% faster than seafreight. Xeneta has also suggested that shippers could turn to sea-air to get shipments to Europe, perhaps even shipping via Los Angeles. “In addition to its impact on the Asia to Europe market, the Red Sea crisis will also likely spark interest in sea-air modes via Dubai and Los Angeles,” analyst Peter Sand wrote in a recent summary. https://lnkd.in/ejd6SrkQ

✨✈️Airfreight Market Update✈️✨ As per the The Loadstar ✈️Middle East to Europe rates up 110% from May 2023. ✈️Global spot rates up 9% from May 2023 ✈️Global Demand up 12% from May 2023 ✈️Chinese E-comm a huge factor in the increased demand of the past 12 months ✈️Airfreight following a trend similar to during the covid market i.e. becoming a viable first choice option for freight as the cost gap to Seafreight becomes smaller & China>Europe Seafreight continues around the cape of good hope. In my opinion, I think the usual Q4 rate/demand hike will come earlier this year & will have a higher peak rate than initially expected as Xmas importers will be rushing to fulfil last minute orders in higher volumes & earlier in the year due to the ongoing Red Sea diversions.
