The 11-strong company plans to restore the property as a vibrant bar and entertainment venue. The transformation will begin this spring as Picture House Social, currently located in the basement, closes in March to make way for the reimagined space, set to open in May. The company said that relationships with local experts, including Creative Arts Development Space and Professor Vanessa Toulmin from the University of Sheffield, will help preserve the building’s heritage while modernising it for future audiences. “This is the biggest and perhaps the most challenging project we’ve ever undertaken,” said Kane Yeardley, owner of True North Brew Co. “We’re proud to bring this iconic venue back to life and ensure it remains a much-loved part of Sheffield for generations to come, bringing this space back to life for Sheffield, by Sheffield.”

Know how we always say time is money? This Café turned the saying into their core business model. When I first stumbled upon the concept of time Cafés, I was instantly fascinated. Here was an idea that turned the conventional cafe model on its head, challenging the way we think businesses should operate. Ivan Mitin was the first to come up with the idea of Time Cafés, where everything is free, except for the time you spend there. Also known as anti-cafés, they operate on a time-based pricing model, making people pay for the experience rather than individual items. ➡️ It’s a whole new way to think about value. And I believe there is a lot we can learn from this concept. Here are my key take aways: ↳ Reimagine your business model: The concept shifts the focus from what customers consume to how they spend their time, potentially leading to more meaningful experiences and interactions. ↳ Create multi-purpose spaces: Customers can use the space however they want – work, study, socialize, host an event, paint or just relax. The flexibility attracts people from all different walks of life and increases the overall value of the café. ↳ Support community and connection: The cafe's design encourages social interaction and community building. They often host events, classes, and workshops, creating a space that functions as a "social network” in real life. ↳ Pay attention to detail: From a clock selection ritual to cozy interiors and carefully curated decor, time cafés pay close attention to small details that create a better overall experience. ↳ Pricing innovation: The time-based pricing model, often with a cap on daily charges, offers a new approach to value perception. ↳ Create a narrative: The Time Café concept tells a story and creates a unique experience from the moment customers enter. The Time Cafés challenged the status quo. They reimagined an everyday experience. They turned minutes into memories. How to Build a Tower from Spaghetti with a Marshmallow on Top 🏗️🍡 During the Tourism Marketing in a Digital Age lecture with Anna Para at Hochschule Luzern - Institut für Tourismus und Mobilität ITM, we took part in the Spaghetti Tower Marshmallow Challenge. The task? Build the tallest structure using: - 20 sticks of spaghetti - 1 yard tape - 1 yard string - 1 marshmallow It’s a simple but powerful exercise in problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative work. In our team, the winning strategy was shaped by having a person with prior experience 😂 . Alberto Perez, who completed this challenge before, played a key role. His experience allowed us to skip the prototyping phase 👀 , which typically involves discussing and testing various designs. Instead, we spent 5 minutes discussing our approach and went straight into building. In the end, the challenge reminded me that sometimes, experience can outweigh theory, but learning never stops.
