Approval for 39 homes in South Lakeland village Great news for the South Lakeland area! Planning permission has been granted for 39 new homes, including 14 affordable homes, in a development south of Haggs Lane in Cartmel Place North West. While we were not involved in the initial stages, our team was brought in by the planning consultants to address concerns raised by the Woodland Trust regarding the impact on a nearby Ancient Semi Natural Woodland. Having assessed the site, adjacent woodland and in particular the topography across the site, we demonstrated that the development would not adversely impact the woodland. In addition to this, with a suitable level of control throughout the construction phase, as well as amendments to the landscape proposals to extend the woodland fringe to create an additional buffer, suitable safeguards could be implemented against negative impacts, allowing this development to proceed. The Scartho Cemetery Chapels are a pair of Grade II listed buildings located within Grimsby Cemetery, Northeast Lincolnshire. In 2022, a sympathetic scheme of restoration and conservation work began to allow the buildings to be restored to serviceable use, whilst reflecting their beautiful Victorian heritage. The project was managed by Gavin Duffy, Senior Architectural Technologist at Northeast Lincolnshire council’s partner, Equans. “We approached J&JW Longbottom Ltd to determine whether the remaining damaged and partial sections of rainwater goods could be replicated to match the original size, profile and fitting arrangement as the original Macfarlane hardware,” said Gavin. “Fortunately, the answer was yes, and it is fair to say that the results exceeded all our expectations. The rainwater goods were faithfully and accurately replicated in every aspect, right down to small details such as the holderbat (bracket) profiles. The re-instatement of the rainwater goods has not only significantly improved the lifespan of the chapels, but also pays tribute to the skill and craftmanship of foundry workers past and present.” Find out more about the project here. https://lnkd.in/eu3ATYF6 #conservation #victorianheritage #scarthocemetery #gradeIIlisted #conservation #restoration #replication #manfarlanefoundry #scarthochapels #grimsby #northeastlincolnshirecouncil #castiron #rainwatergods #foundry #jandjwlongbottom

The Arboretum San Antonio will be a transformative project in so many ways. There has been lots of public input. If you are in the industry as an architect, a landscape architect, a landscaper, arborist, grower, policy leader, please take this survey. The back end of this arboretum could be just as important as the public facing side for making changes in San Antonio. This is a link to the survey about the development of the master plan https://lnkd.in/gazWpmrd

🏰 Restoration Update: Reviving Historical Integrity! We’re deep into our restoration project, facing unexpected challenges along the way. 🛠️ Have a snoop at our latest progress video! 🎥 Upon removing the old render, we uncovered damage from previous inadequate workmanship and unsuitable materials used. Key efforts included: - Rebuilding two chimneys and part of a gable wall. - Extensive stonework repairs. We're now assessing another wall that may need rebuilding, pending approval from the heritage officer. Despite these obstacles, we've successfully applied the initial base coats to some of the walls. 👀 Keep watching as we tackle these complex tasks, ensuring our heritage stands strong for the future. 📌 #HistoricRestoration#LimeRender#PreservingHeritage#ConstructionExcellence

Resetting cemetery monuments with permeable foundations is a best practice that benefits both our clients and our business. Each year, we successfully reset thousands of monuments using permeable foundations, a feat that would not be possible with concrete. #cemetery #monument #restoration #heritage #conservation #bestpractices #projectmanagement #toronto #costefficient #preservation #gravecare #compliance #ontario #canada

For this week's Flashback Friday we’re heading 🔙 to 1934 when our mate G W Hutchison was getting ready to turn on the water supply to Birkenhead for the very first time. The photo info is a little sketchy but we reckon that's him doing the mahi on the right. Did you know that Birkenhead was actually the first borough on the North Shore to get a permanent water supply? With more and more boroughs needing fresh water, the demand on Lake Pupuke quickly became too much, so in 1934 the team turned on the tap at the new Kauri Point pumping station. It got water from Western Springs via the newly constructed underwater pipeline. All this mahi meant there was a bit more H2O to flow to other suburbs until they too decided to use another source 💧 Photo credit 👉 Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections 1166-ALB226-58 #FlashbackFriday #Flashback #History #Memories #Teamwork #Team #Water #WaterIndustry #Auckland #Project #OnTheTools #KeepGoing #Determination #Dedication #Pipes #Engineering #Engineer #Construction #Suppliers #Birkenhead #Northshore #Crowd #Celebrate #H20
