As I left the Gateway Community & Technical College board meeting last night, the current cohort for the Lineman Program was actively learning in real-world conditions. For many it's their first college experience, helping them see they are, in fact, college-ready. The short (16 week) and affordable program (~$3,000) equips people looking to begin careers in a high-paying, high-growth industry. This was developed in partnership with key employers in the area who recognized the long-term demand for skilled workers and a natural lack of supply. Most who complete this program move directly into jobs with Duke Energy Corporation, OWEN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC., CTS, BOWLIN COMMUNICATION LLC, and altafiber. Is your company having a challenge hiring qualified and skilled employees? Do you see this continuing in the future? Consider if a customized program with Gateway might be the answer.
Thank you for sharing! This is a great program for many students.
How is the outlook for general education? I am hoping admin and the BOD are lobbying their legislators and keeping faculty and staff informed on the latest developments. Great work, I have spikes and have climbed many palm trees, line work is hard work from the good folks that keep this society running.
Thanks John. The work you and others are doing developing workforce skills is incredible and so significant. No doubt, these programs will be kept very busy into the future.
Thank you for supporting this Gateway program, John!
John, thanks for sharing!
