Canada releases its long-awaited Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern - it denies funding for sensitive technology research areas connected to military, national defence, or state security entities that are viewed as posing a risk to Canada’s national security. Key overlaps here with export controls and sanctions law and policy. The Policy covers a broad range of sensitive technologies, including Digital Infrastructure Technology, Energy Technology, Materials and Manufacturing, Sensing and Surveillance, Weapons, Aerospace, Space and Satellite, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Human-Machine Integration, Life Science Technology (Biotechnology and Medical and Healthcare Technology), Quantum Science and Technology, and Robotics and Autonomous Systems. The Policy also identifies specific research organizations and institutions in China, Iran and Russia that pose the highest risk to Canada’s national security due to their direct or indirect connections with military, national defence, and state security entities. #ResearchAndDevelopment #NationalSecurity #sanctions #ExportControls #China #Iran #Russia #universities
