Who captains the captain? Director of Yacht Management and former Royal Navy Officer, Chris Andreason, recently spoke to The Superyacht Report about the importance of leadership training for yacht captains. "What we need to do is bring in the ethos that leadership is a professional skill the same way as sailing a yacht is. The current career trajectory doesn't adequately prepare captains for the multifaceted responsibilities they face." Chris spoke alongside Tracey Santrian and Karl Santrian, founders of BZ Maritime Leadership, who provide world-class leadership and professional developments to the superyacht industry. "Many owners aren't made aware if the need for new crew to undergo leadership training, assuming that technical expertise is enough. However, on a high-value asset as a yacht with a sizeable crew, technical skills alone don't translate to effective management." By accident or design? A Russian leader is quoted as saying they would conquer America without firing a shot. They would destroy US from within. A generation later, how many of our leaders have COMMUNIST VIEWS? Government is NOT what made America an Empire. It was imperfect people who had dreams that had the ability to chase them. Where else has any Nation allowed entrepreneurs to have that kind of freedom? We are at the CROSSROADS. BANNA Republics fix elections, kill competition, have Dictators and MASSIVE CORRUPTION! Which Party in America isn’t on someones payroll? MANY politicians have millions of dollars and several mansions from a GOVERNMENT SALARY?? All parties, including Commrade Bernie. There are some sincere good people trying to fix things, but the SWAMP is extremely powerful, deep and dark. #spiritualness In the late 1960’s we had a spiritual shift. A spiritual darkness covered America. JFK, RFK, MLK wanted to fight the deep state and the status quo. I’m not taking a stance, just stating facts. What happened to ALL 3 of them? What media can we truly trust? People argue ‘facts’ that some actor who was handed a script reads on air. Ask yourself a question- If you were with 3 of your friends and a few men walked up to you in a parking lot with a box cutter and said give me you car keys, would you do it? Every Jumbo Jet has a Pilot, CoPilot and Navigator, not to include Attendants. 19 allegedly Saudi Arabians did just that with box cutters- result Dick Cheney did not go to Saudi, instead he attacked Iraq’s oil fields that Sadamm refused to sell to a certain Texas Company with a certain person who was the CEO. These same 19 people- learned to fly weeks prior in Piper Airplanes. From that they graduated to flying JUMBO JETS doing in some cases from Reagan International, a 45* decent crossing the equivalent of 3 football fields 20’ off the ground!!! PHYSICS does not allow a 747 JUMBO JET to do that. We will not get into where all the plane wreckage went. Wing spans, engines, luggage etc.. Wings on large aircraft are made to move, so they do not break off. They can go through a Stone Building? Um Educate yourself America and question what you are told by ACTORS READING SCRIPTS. BZ Maritime Leadership aims to enhance 'Human Capability' across superyachting, as it is a critical enabler for the future success of the industry. Embedding a professional leadership culture in the industry is fundamental to achieving this, and we welcome being alongside and working to upskill captains, HODs, crew, shoreside leaders and staff. The superyacht industry is a worldwide premium brand, and the people who fund it, understandably, expect exceptional service and safety. To achieve this, the workforce requires a high level of 'Human Capability,' and this doesn't just happen by chance. It needs buy-in from the key stakeholders and investment in training and development. Not investing brings risk, whereas the rewards for getting 'Human Capability' right are high (better service, safety, increased profits). The workforce will also benefit greatly, with a better working culture, that inspires professional fulfilment and personal happiness. From our perspective, we are optimistic that awareness and attitudes to change are moving in a positive direction. It was fantastic to attend the UK Chamber of Shipping Autumn lunch. New contacts and conversations made and reconnecting with others. Two major themes really being discussed: 1. Challenges of Recruitment and retention, primarily for seafarers. However there is an important part for shore based employers to play too in raising awareness of careers in the maritime sphere. Shipping is a rock n’ roll industry- we need to be shouting about it. 2. Challenges of decarbonisation and future proofing fleets. This is a massive issue and there won’t be a one size fits all solution. Something I have been invovled in this year with RINA projects. I want to do more! RINA can help on both these areas - we are always keen to talk to people wishing to work in the maritime sector!
