Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning" As many of my LinkedIn followers know, the Muscle Help Foundation #charity is a small, but mighty charity that packs a punch when it comes to delivering transformational outcomes for its vulnerable beneficiaries living with the muscle wasting condition #musculardystrophy ~ MD is relentless and unforgiving. In 2023, nine of the charity’s Muscle Dream beneficiaries died. The average age was 19yrs. A harsh reality. For many young people in our community, #time is an incredibly precious commodity! Blood Donation Update! 🩸 For our ‘40 for 40 Challenge’ we pledged to donate enough blood to facilitate 40 transfusions- by our calculations that is 14 donations. We are making significant headway, having donated 7 times. However, despite the NHS’ desperate appeal for blood donations, there is unfortunately a shortage of staff. Due to this, many of our team members have experienced cancellations and have been unable to rebook until 2025. Although, all is not lost! We have decided to extend our donation timeframe into 2025, to ensure TPI successfully donate 14 times and do our part to reduce the blood shortage. At the end of the day, our 40 for 40 fundraiser is first and foremost for charity, and we are committed to doing our upmost to help those in need. We encourage you all, if you are able to, to donate blood at this desperate time. We know TPI will continue beyond our goal of 14 donations. Hello everyone! I am continuing to raise money for EndoFound as I train for the NYC Marathon, and I would be so grateful for donations of any amount. If I don’t raise my minimum amount, I pay for the rest out of pocket, so anything helps! Bonus if your company offers donation matching ☺️ The Endometriosis Foundation of America is a non-profit organization that strives to increase disease recognition, provide advocacy, facilitate expert surgical training, and fund landmark endometriosis research. Without their efforts, it may have taken me longer to discover the signs and symptoms of endometriosis, which lead to my own diagnosis almost 3 years ago. Endometriosis is very common, with about 1 in 10 women experiencing this disease (200 million women worldwide). It is in the top 20 most painful conditions. There is, on average, a 7-10 year delay in diagnosis, and is one of the leading causes of infertility. Endo is often found in the pelvic cavity but has also been found in the kidneys, lungs, diaphragm, and brain. It can cause a wide range of symptoms and is considered a whole-body disease that can greatly reduce quality of life in those who have it. We need more research and advocacy for endometriosis so we can reduce the amount of time it takes to diagnose and treat it. Please consider donating to be part of this change! Anything helps!

As I walked on Monday - Chapa Kalesa ultra walk- to raise awareness for and around blood donation, I got to interact with a few Kenyans during my few stop overs. I observed high levels of blood donation illiteracy. (Yes, I just made that phrase up and it works 😁) 1. The number of Kenyans who are unaware about blood donation in general, anecdotally, is high. 2. Poor awareness of the donation centres in proximal distance. 3. Poor correlation between the need for donation and the impact and role they can play in addressing the challenge. One Kiambu resident asked me 'why?' in response to me challenging him to consider donating blood. 4. Questions abound inspired by myths and misconceptions around blood donations. 5. There's apathy fuelled by 'claims' of blood trade. 6. Unavailability of blood and blood products for transfusion for patients whose relatives/friends have donated blood at one time or other has been effective in reducing repeat donations. 7. The price that is surcharged transfusion patients is interpreted as blood trade for blood donated for free. In conclusion, there is a great need for national strategic intervention programmes to address this illiteracy and apathy with the objective of increasing blood collections across the country.
