Happy Juneteenth! Today, we celebrate the end of slavery in the United States, a monumental day marking freedom for millions of Black Americans. We come together to honor those who fought for liberation and acknowledge the immense progress made since that fateful June 19th in 1865. However, Juneteenth also serves as a stark reminder that the journey towards true equality is far from over. While the chains of physical slavery were broken, the shackles of systemic racism and economic disparity remain. Black communities continue to face marginalization in finance, with limited access to capital and fair lending practices. Insurance systems often perpetuate inequalities, and educational opportunities can be unequal. The issue of reparations for the lasting effects of slavery deserves serious national discussion. For much of my government career in Detroit , I've dedicated myself to fighting against these very issues. Whether battling discriminatory lending practices or advocating for educational equity, I've seen firsthand the challenges faced by Black Americans striving for financial security and advancement. Juneteenth is a time to celebrate, but it's also a call to action. We cannot be complacent. We must continue to dismantle the systems that perpetuate inequality and empower Black communities to achieve financial independence and true social mobility. Let's honor the spirit of Juneteenth by amplifying Black voices, advocating for policies that promote racial equity, and supporting Black-owned businesses. Together, we can build a future where the promise of liberty extends beyond the absence of chains, and towards a society where opportunity thrives for all. #Junteeth

Juneteenth marks the day that the last enslaved African Americans finally learned that they were free- over two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. While today is a day to celebrate freedom and resilience, it is also a solemn reminder that for Black Americans, justice is too often delayed. Children of color disproportionately face barriers to resources and opportunities due to discriminatory practices within our society and systems. Implicit biases are embedded in our legal, criminal, and education systems. Within our own community, there are thousands of children each year that need someone to stand up for them and protect their rights. When our children’s lives intersect with the juvenile justice system, they should be treated with respect and provided holistic support to address the root cause of the issues. This #Juneteenth, join us in celebrating the resilience of Black Americans, while also joining us in our fight towards equitable opportunity for children of color- from the courtroom, to the classroom, to our everyday lives. Please note: Our office will be closed today (6/19) in observance of this holiday. #BlackLivesMatter

📘 **Reflecting on 'Denying Black Oppression' - Part 3 of 'Why Does Everything Have to Be About Race?' by Keith Boykin** 📘 I've just concluded Part 3 of Keith Boykin’s thought-provoking book, and the themes presented have deeply resonated with me, both intellectually and emotionally: 1️⃣ **Weaponizing Racial Differences:** It’s disheartening to see how racial differences are manipulated politically and socially. As a historian and an outward mindset facilitator, I find the misuse of these differences not only morally reprehensible but also socially corrosive. 🌐 2️⃣ **Redefining Patriotism (Chapter 14):** Boykin challenges the conventional views on patriotism. Acts like kneeling during the national anthem are argued to represent the very freedoms America stands for, rather than being unpatriotic. This perspective urges us to rethink what it means to truly love and critique our country. 🇺🇸 3️⃣ **The Case for Reparations (Chapter 15):** With less than 18% of white Americans supporting reparations for Black Americans, Boykin emphasizes the necessity of reparations for healing and establishing a foundation for real equality, drawing on historical precedents. 💰 These chapters have educated me, challenged my perspectives, and motivated me to advocate more vigorously for racial justice. Silence and inaction are not options if we seek genuine equality. 🤔 How can we, as professionals, foster discussions that challenge and expand our understanding of patriotism and racial justice? What actions can we take in our communities to address these critical issues? #SocialJustice #RacialEquality #KeithBoykin #History #LearningToGrow #SpeakUp #TheClarkCommunique

I rarely repost content on LinkedIn, however this message is so powerful, I had to share it. This post offers a much needed perspective on allyship and the importance of critical thinking while supporting individuals just because of their Race. It's a call for GENUINE ACTION, not just performative support. Let's move beyond surface-level engagement and work towards dismantling systemic oppression, regardless of who is toting it. #dobetter #socialjustice #allyship #genuineaction #criticalthinking #repost

Stepping out of my usual lane to address something that seems relevant to be said To those who consider themselves "allies" and social justice "advocates" to the Black community, it's time for a reality check. If you’re supporting Black individuals who maintain the status quo, you’re missing the mark. Allowing identity to solely inform your support without critical analysis undermines true allyship. Where is your praxis? Your real commitment to dismantling systemic oppression? No one is asking you to confront our community skinfolks directly, but to be a true ally, you will need to move beyond surface-level support. It's not enough to label yourself an ally—show it through your actions. Engage critically, do more reading, and ensure your support actively challenges the systems that perpetuate inequity. And stop and think before supporting Black individuals who have no praxis themselves, especially when there are alternative, value aligned options. Black faces in high places is not the goal if it keeps the system in place. #dobetter #Allyship #SocialJustice #DiversityANDEquityANDInclusion #DEI #CriticalThinking #SystemicChange #Praxis #AntiRacism #Accountability #CriticalEngagement #SocialChange #JusticeAdvocacy
