🦆🦆🦆It is imperative that medical professionals learn to recognize grooming, especially in the behaviors of other medical professionals. There is a chapter in my book dedicated to medical settings and the risk factors for abuse. 😷🩺⚕️This horrible case highlights that well respected medical professionals often have the ability to do as they please under the banner of “medical need”. It is especially common in religious and isolated communities with strong cultural/ behavioral norms. 📞 ☎️📱These brave women who stepped forward to call out this predator have my respect and compassion. I call on you, medical professionals, to be able to help root out these predators. #duckduckgroom #therapisttips #preparednotparanoid

📢 In one of our latest original research papers, researchers from the Institute for Policy Solutions at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing unveil the factors that shape Latino and Black fathers’ decisions about when to initiate condom guidance with their sons. This study provides practical suggestions for engaging fathers in primary care and represents a novel approach to increasing condom use and reducing negative sexual health outcomes among male adolescents. 💡 “Discussing paternal notions of adolescent male readiness for sex might be a good way for family-focused health care providers to get fathers involved in protecting their adolescent sons’ sexual health," said Vincent Guilamo-Ramos, a nurse practitioner who specializes in adolescent sexual health and study lead author who is Executive Director of the Institute for Policy Solutions at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. ➡️ Check out the video abstract below and read the full study for comprehensive insights: https://lnkd.in/dyJ_3A_q 👥 Contributing Authors: Marco Thimm-Kaiser, MPH, Adam Benzekri, Anthony Balaguera, Susam Ramos Deulofeutt, and Lisvel Matos. #familymedicine #primarycare

It is astonishing that a notable number of European countries lack a '𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗲' (CSA) national clinical practice guidelines! There is a need for a multidisciplinary team to develop a pan-European CSA guideline to ensure quality care for survivors. Insightful conversion by Daniela Marín-Hernández Gabriel Otterman & Jordan Greenbaum. Listen to our new episode of The Lancet Regional Health - Europe in conversation with... In this episode I was delighted to speak with Gabriel Otterman and Jordan Greenbaum. Authors of an article published in our April issue, entitled "Clinical care of childhood sexual abuse: a systematic review and critical appraisal of guidelines from European countries". First, we discussed what child maltreatment is and the difficulties associated with defining it, then we looked at statistics on child sexual abuse in Europe and came up with a staggering figure: one in 10 children in Europe is sexually abused! We then discuss the short- and long-term effects and challenges of identifying and treating child sexual abuse from a health perspective. We then delve into the objectives, methodology and results of the systematic review, concluding with the authors' recommendations for adopting a universal framework to ensure that all children receive the highest level of care and that the results are accurately reported and used, regardless of where in Europe the child is cared for.

Unraveling the Mediating Role of Frailty: Understanding Health Care Utilization among Older Sexual and Gender Minority Adults in the All of Us Research Program #OHDSISocialShowcase #JoinTheJourney Lead: Chelsea N Wong Team: Louisa H. Smith, Rob Cavanaugh, Brianne Olivieri-Mui, PhD, MPH Background: Older sexual and gender minorities (OSGM) have a higher burden of frailty and mental health conditions compared to non-SGM older adults (non-OSGM). Evidence from New York City suggests, OSGM are twice as likely to utilize mental health care compared to non-OSGM. Moreover, frailty among non-OSGM has been linked to higher utilization of health care, including general doctor visits, hospitalizations, and emergency department visits. However, the extent to which frailty impacts the relaAonship between OSGM status and health care uAlizaAon is poorly understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to establish whether frailty acts as a mediator between sexual and gender minority (SGM) status and use of general doctor visits and mental health visits. Our hypothesis posits that individuals who are not frail will demonstrate a weaker positive association between OSGM status and healthcare utilization. https://lnkd.in/eGF5jGtJ
