REGRET SUCKS!!  Over 75% of Entrepreneurs regret selling their business for the price they did within as little as 90 days after the transaction closes.  My opinion is this is caused by selling to early, selling for to little or not having a good experience during the acquisition process.  Deal fatigue is a real thing and most don’t understand how taxing the EXIT process is if you’re not fully prepared and have the wrong advisory team. Emotional Side of Selling a Business Selling a business is one of the most significant decisions an entrepreneur can make. It’s not just about the financials—it’s deeply emotional. I’ve seen firsthand the impact of this decision on business owners. For many, their business is more than just a source of income; it’s a part of their identity, a reflection of their hard work, dreams, and sacrifices. Often, owners view their business as an extension of themselves and their employees as family. Just last week, I met with a business owner who had owned his business for 50 years. Several of his employees had been with him for most of that time. Can you imagine the difficulty involved in letting that go? That’s why, when acquiring a business, I approach the process with empathy, understanding that for the seller, this isn’t just a transaction—it’s the culmination of years, sometimes decades, of dedication, relationships, and hard work that they are entrusting to me. I strive to respect that by offering reassurance that their legacy will be honoured and that their employees will be well taken care of. When you take the time to identify and acknowledge the emotional perspective of a seller, you significantly increase the chances of a successful transaction.
