"I am the queen of the pivot. Wherever I see opportunities for my personal or professional growth, I shift gears and move toward that direction. Life is an adventure, and I want to make sure I experience it all with as few regrets as possible. I have not always been this way. My first pivot was over 10 years ago. As any good first-generation daughter knows, excelling academically was critical. After undergrad, I went straight into my PhD program, the UK equivalent of getting an MD/PhD. I was going to be a doctor and make my family proud. “Our very own Dr. MacCarthy” - they’d boast. However, I was not being true to myself and my purpose." Miriam M., Founder and CEO at Hiedberg , shares tips for being a fearless career pivoter. 👉 Full post: https://bit.ly/4cgheBM #womenintech #pivot #careertransition #careergrowth #personalgrowth

Recently, I was invited by Thomas G. Sors, PhD from PI4D, Purdue University. By God's grace I had the pleasure of sharing some of my academic experiences from school days to PhD and Postdoc ranging from #mentoring, #cultural experiences, # studying #abroad. Thank you, Tommy! Link: https://lnkd.in/dQE5ke2s Some of the lessons I have learnt thus far along my academic journey: 1. Don't be #discouraged by #small town disadvantage, rather seek active support from family members, teachers, & friends; who have #richer #experiences. Use their advice, make an #informed decision in the light of #pros and #cons and decide to do what you #enjoy the most! God's #grace is sufficient, #always! 2. Try to find out what really #drives you, that something which you are #passionate about. Look back at your school days, things which #excited you, #hooked you, kept you engaged and absorbed; #probably that might be the area you will be the best at in #career! 3. There is a #purpose behind everything that happens in our life, be it something good or a humanly considered tragedy. A #sovereign purpose! It's our choice to use it to #make us or #break us apart. I lost my left eye at the age of 7, but that's the greatest #blessing that could come in my life and changed the trajectory of my life, for good! Want to know why, then you need to hear it in the video! #God is good, #all the time! 4. Prepare yourself for #expecting the #unexpected. Planning to go abroad? Did not yet learn about the initial honeymoon period and later the cultural shock?? Learn what the culture will be like, how people communicate on day-to-day basis, because something which is offensive in your country might be completely normal in the place you are planning to move. #Learn to #value #differences, you may realize that #both the sides are #right! Embrace unity in diversity, for we all are made in HIS image! 5. #No #obstacle is too #difficult if you have people around you. And no success is worth it, if you are lonely. Have a #community, who #build people, encourage them, truly #celebrate their #success, and would mentor for growth. #Refuse to reach the top #alone, instead take many along and celebrate #together! 6. #NEVER give up! Try, in #your country. Fail! Try in the country where you are #employed. Fail! Try in the country where you are working as a #guest. Fail! Try as an alien. AND WIN!!! This is how by God's shear grace I was selected for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings 2023. NEVER, give up! 7. Give thanks, with a grateful heart! Be genuinely grateful for the contributions people have made in your life, with their #prayers, #time, #energy, #talents, #money and many more! First, God! Your #family, #parents, siblings, spouse, kids, relatives, pastors, friends, teachers, mentors, and many more! https://lnkd.in/dQE5ke2s #Career #Mentoring #Research #Culture #Experience #Grace #Purpose #Gratitude Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings #GloryToLordJesus

Culture Futurist® & Founder, Creativity America | Bridging Creative Industries + Brain Science with Future of Work + Wondervation™
Debt of gratitude for the brilliance of this group during our recent Brain Capital Alliance series of events in conjunction with the Science Summit at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Thank you New York Public Radio for hosting our session on building an American #CreativityInfrastructure for the #FutureofWork. ( 👉 More: https://lnkd.in/eKRZjQsP ) In an ever-evolving global economy, the failure to invest in building #SocialBrainCapital (#creativity + #socialwellbeing skills) is a sure way to fall behind. But what if we could pivot from just catching up to defining the curve? Let's talk not about mere survival, but legacy! Firstly, consider what we stand to lose. The #arts, #sciences, and #businesses in America are increasingly witnessing talent drain, diminishing #innovationROI, and stifling of creative pursuits. Our historic leadership in these sectors is at risk. The cost of inaction is not just missed opportunities, but the regression of decades of progress. By interlinking #arts, #science, #business, and #education into a skills infrastructure, we're not only creating a synergy but using cognitive, behavioral and social #brainscience to establish a national skill development infrastructure where creativity flourishes, technology meets humanity, businesses thrive, and artists lead. While global competition remains unpredictable, what's certain is the tangible, immediate value that #CreativityAmerica brings. The blend of cognitive abilities and social wellbeing processes that this #workforce innovation initiative champions is targeted at yielding a 25% surge in America's #creativethinking, #resilience and other top #futureofwork skills within the next decade. Now more than ever, in an age of unprecedented #cultural and #technological upheaval, reviving the spirit of #wonder is crucial. I think that in today’s time their wisdom is widely underrated and overlooked. Society is pushing to listen to GenZ but what’s about people in their 70ths and upwards❔❔❔ When I founded my Start-Up, Kuchentratsch 🍰👵🏽, I started to advocate for retired people. Beyond providing them a space to meet, make new friends, contribute and being able to supplement their pension I also aimed to challenge societal perception of aging. Just last week, back in Oxford, Alastair, our 80 year old guest professor 💯 reminded me of my Start-Up journey I embarked over a decade ago. --> // 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 80 𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 40𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥. Alaistar´s presence, attentiveness and contributions were not only a huge inspiration for me but also my classmates. Most of them are in their 40s and deeply embedded in successful careers. Witnessing their admiration for Alaistar´s commitment to lifelong learning and mental agility, that they propably found, in a very unexpected way, a role model for themselves. --> // 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞-𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠. Spending a week in class with Alaistair I not only learned about his rich experience in business transformation and turnaround but also learned a valuable lesson lesson on note-taking. When he shared his notes afterwards revealed a perspective that left me humbled and inspired. They were so much better than mine. It was the perspective he took when considering taking notes. Making this experience it deepens my opinion that it is extremely valuable to have a diverse mix of ages in different life settings. Work, Friends, Social Circles, school, hobbies etc. Propably it would be great to consider having two spots at the EMBA program given to age 70+ applicants? I am keen to hear your thoughts Kathy Harvey, Helen Saward, Soumitra Dutta? ☺️ #rolemodel #inspiration #sbs #oxford

#AwakeningMinds #Dependant-#indepedentminds-#work #interdependently. The only formula to building a better tomorrow is based on how we substitute past misplaced concepts with a reality previewed today. History to be repeated is not being repeated because dependant minds of today's young stars and tomorrow's victors, are only taught about great men pictured in their old ages. But who has laboured to talk about their upbringing?Their initial stage when their desire for enormous research outcomes and today's scientific advancements, was still immature. To motivate a dependant mind, Talk about how past dependant minds saw it put to become the independent victors whose advancement we see today. We don't need a society where scientific, socialists, researcher's dependant minds are taught to be dependant in order to be independent, we need a society where dependant minds are taught on how to be independent to work interdependently. Let's drive the young generation to modern advancement and nurture young researchers for future advents. A society today without an inspired socialist, social activists, advocates is a society without societal values and advents tomorrow. Awakening minds unveiling future advents.

Really powerful essay that should resonate with everyone working in academia. The current state of affairs cannot go on, this is not sustainable. The only solution is a vast reassessment of the research and HE system to align them with what we value: slow, quality science over meaningless quantity. Changing the research culture is essential to the continued survival of science. #mentalhealth #researchculture #academia https://lnkd.in/ejawTRGW

Seize Time and Dare to Dream: A Reflection on Life's Fleeting Journey In the blink of an eye, we journey from being children to becoming elders. Our days, once filled with boundless curiosity and wonder, soon become consumed by responsibilities and routine. Yet, amidst the demands of adulthood, a whisper from our younger selves remains: Dare to dream and seize the time. In our pursuit of success and ambition, we often postpone our deepest dreams, thinking there's always time to come back to them. But the truth is, life moves swiftly. Suddenly, we look back and realize that we're no longer the dream-filled children we once were. What if, just for a moment, we could return to those days of boundless potential? What would we change? And if our younger selves met us today, would they be proud? Would they see us pursuing those wild aspirations with the same fiery determination they once had? It's better to say, "I'm glad I dared," than to ask, "Why didn't I?" Embrace the spirit of your inner child dream big, take risks, and live with passion. Whether you're a business professional, an entrepreneur, or a leader, use this reflection to break free from the confines of comfort. Chase your dreams, not because they're guaranteed to succeed, but because you'll grow along the way. Be the version of yourself your younger self would admire. The clock keeps ticking. Let the echoes of your childhood remind you to dream boldly and to live without hesitation. After all, the only thing standing between you and your dream is the courage to say, Why not? I'm so excited to finally share this research with the world. Our team at Camber Collective (Morgan, Tess, Josh, Marc) has partnered closely with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Kimberly, Connor) to bring seminal research to the economic mobility field, analyzing the relative impact of different life experiences on mobility. This research involved a survey of more than 4,000 Americans and dozens of hours of interviews, because we know insights are richer when those most impacted and their lived experiences are valued. Moreover, we highlight the important role that structural barriers, disproportionally, play to hinder economic mobility for communities of color from healthcare to education to career progress and social relationships. "I do think people have a preset idea of who I am because of the way I speak and my skin color. I’m not a gang member or thug. I’ve gotten jobs that I went for but they weren’t big jobs. I do think it [my race] has affected my career path.” —Darren, age 42, Ohio Please read and share Part 1 of an ongoing research series on pathways to economic mobility. #economicmobility #livedexperience
Our team has partnered with Gates Foundation US on sweeping new research that identifies the life experiences that have the greatest impact on economic mobility. In our new report, the first in a series, we evaluate these 28 key life experiences and their relative impact on lifetime earnings. Economic mobility has steadily declined in the U.S. since the 1940s. By better understanding which experiences have the greatest impact, we can help key stakeholders intervene more effectively to give all Americans the opportunity for a better life. Yes Alireza Jahanandish, kindness and compassion for others, is the purity and beauty of our souls, and that is what it's all about, adapting our behaviours, so that we can all, every single one of us, begin to gain kindness and compassion, not just for all of our fellow human beings, but also, for all that is vulnerable that belongs to all Earth's nature, but this is an extremely difficult thing to do, if we have been hurt by others, because we store these emotional hurt feelings as memories, that is the reason that, if we don’t even have heightened awareness, loving-kindness and compassion for our own individual suffering, how on earth can we gain heightened awareness, and give loving-kindness and compassion to others? This is why, “LOVE” is the most powerful gift that we can give to our children, and to ourselves!” But, “Unconditional LOVE”, is an even greater “LOVE”, that has far more healing powers, however, "Unconditional Love", can only be obtained through the 'WE ARE', altruistic emotions and behaviours of the collective consciousness. Imagine now, if all 8 billion plus people, began to find the practical solutions to become dominantly developed with our advanced, ‘WE ARE’ altruistic emotions and behaviours of the collective consciousness? This is when, we would all take care of each other, and all take care of, all vulnerable that belongs to all Earth's nature. This is when there would be no more suffering on our fragile Planet Earth, ever again. And these, are also the only solutions for us all to get to know what it feels like, to live a life of Paradise here on Earth. These are just a very few, of the enormous benefits of our advanced, altruistic emotions and behaviours of the collective consciousness. Audiobook Podcast: Lucy EarthGuardiansEducation Many blessings Alireza, for a swift recovery! Lucy
My first adventure to the US: The Trip of Pains and Gains! When I left Washington D.C. in 2011, I’d been certified by IMF for the participation in a demanding advanced course in Macroeconomic Diagnostics. As a complementary to my years of doing research for national and inter-governmental organizations, it was a great pivotal #achievement that opened the doors prior to which, I believe, seemed to be slammed.🚪 One year later, I was admitted to Columbia University in the city of New York. And I cried of happiness with admissions like that; say, years of my sincere efforts and hard works had been paid off. 😇 Nonetheless, today I feel like to be grown enough to understand that there are kinds of joy in #life much more important than such mundane achievements as money, graduate degrees, posts, medals, etc. ⬇️ Let’s continue with a short #story: It was my last day in the United States. Through the open windows of my room at The Concordia came the rich scent of cherry 🌸 blossoms as I was packing my suitcases. The door was knocked; yes? And someone came in to clean. I thanked her and said: “no need to do anything; already done.” Then I offered her some fruit and a bottle of water. She was tired, but smiled. And did not want to accept even the water; I insisted and gave her a glass too. Few minutes later, I noticed the dishwashing machine had been turned on; just to wash one glass. Still I remember appreciation in her beautiful eyes when leaving my room. I thought: 💭 Was it the reflection of #kindness? 🥲 👉 All the way to the airport,* I thought about: #priority, #economics, #society, #environment, #sustainability, #privilege, and #vulnerability. Let’s be kind, my friends, to #people in lower social status; sometimes they are of the most vulnerable. And we all have #social_responsibilities. ✍️ Today I would say with #confidence: Time is fleeting, and beauty ephemeral; but we can all leave a #legacy of kindness. PS.* In the last minutes at the airport, I opened this LinkedIn account which yesterday turned 13. 🎉 - Your kind reactions, comments, and messages made my day before I go under a surgical operation. 🙂 - No worries! I am still alive, and back to the pitch ⚽️ in three months from now if not sooner.

1moYes to fellow pivoters! And owning it. Cheering you on, Miriam. I really can relate to this, "As any good first-generation daughter knows, excelling academically was critical." Boy, was that a battle.
