Biggest mistake I see in USAID proposal recruitment? Treating recruitment for proposals just like any other type of recruiting. The truth is proposal recruitment is a whole different beast compared to, say, recruiting for an active project or HQ roles. Here's why it's unique: 🎯 Driven by Winning: Your decision making is guided by not only who you believe can get the job done, but first and foremost by who is going to help your team win the proposal. 🤝 Building a Team: At the proposal stage, you’re assembling your dream team from scratch. It’s an opportunity to put together a complementary mix of skills and expertise that aligns with your approach and USAID’s priorities. ⏳ Timeline: Recruiting for USAID proposals can be a game of hurry up and wait as you make your way through capture, a live proposal, and then waiting for an award. And it’s all hypothetical until that award is signed. 🏇 Competition: You can expect multiple organizations to be vying for the same pool of talented people for their teams. It’s essential to make a case for why candidates should join your organization. Ready to up your proposal recruitment game? I’m teaching a cohort-based course through Keylime Academy, Recruitment for USAID Proposals. It launches October 10!
