Dear Job Seekers, When you don't land a job after an interview, don't get discouraged. Instead, ask relevant questions to gain valuable insights for your next opportunity. To get ideas for your next learning path, consider these; • Appreciate the recruiter for his/her time. • Ask the recruiter to rate your communication skills on a scale of 1-10. • Engage in a brief discussion to learn from their expertise. • Ask about future trends in the industry and the company's goals. Always remember that every company is industry conscious and are constantly following trends to be sustained. • Inquire about updated personal and technological skills that will be required in future. • Ask about certifications they approve. Both organizational type and type of trainings/course you should take. • Find out what latest tools or software the company uses in that role you missed. • Show them that you'll keep in touch regularly to share the improvements you've made. Remember, interviews are not only a chance to showcase your skills but also opportunities to network and gain valuable insights into industry needs, helping you focus your learning and growth for your next career step. 📷: Interview with a UK company I did in May.

During MBA placement season, we pour our hearts into crafting the perfect CV, showing impressive achievements, and preparing to ace those interviews. We invest a lot of intellect and discipline, hoping to land that dream job. But I’ve realized the real bottleneck of making it in a job (especially in consulting) isn’t about the intellect. You can be very smart and yet struggle here. Its more about your energy level. That is: 1. How much work-related tasks exhaust your energy? Work, untimely, long and frequent travel, being on-call, team dinners, extra-curriculars at workplace, networking, etc. 2. How fast can you replenish yourself? How little sleep can you afford, how can you compartmentalize thoughts, how quickly can you do a mental context switch between different projects, how well can you switch off your thoughts and feelings, how okay are you with last-minute changes, and how can you bloom in high-anxiety situations? Interviews and college tests usually focus on your intellect. But what many overlook—sometimes even us—is that resilience and energy (physical, mental, and emotional) are just as crucial. When one of these three falters—intellect, resilience, or energy—we falter too.

New graduates entering the interview process for the first time may feel they are lacking in the experience arena. This may be true as far as the official job description goes but you already have college experiences that count! The leadership roles held in your college clubs, sororities and fraternities are important to mention in an interview. Specific descriptions of the activities involved in these roles prove you are an asset to a company. Expand upon any volunteer work you may have participated in and how you helped the cause. What jobs during college did you hold? These are all examples of what you bring to the table and how you fit into the organization's culture. Companies want to be able to train you in the specifics of the role you are applying for and are happy to do this. It is understood that as a new graduate you haven’t the complete set of qualifications. Make the most of your first interviews by communicating the experiences you have had. We can help you develop, craft and convey these experiences in a positive manner demonstrating your value to a company. We provide a complimentary 30 minute consultation to help get you started!
