I find these stats frightening but also sadly not surprising. It can be a bit of minefield talking about ‘sustainability’ out loud, confidently, and without fear of accusation or the proverbial s*** hitting the fan. But! That doesn’t mean it should be avoided… There are guidelines to follow as well as marketers (like myself!) who are getting/are qualified to lead brands in exactly this. Given ‘whole’ sustainability (as in encompassing people, planet AND profit!) is going to become more and more of a regulatory requirement, as well as consumer expectation, it’s not something any organisation can or should shy away from. #peopleprofitplanet #sustainability #brandreputation #brandpresence #marketingcommunications

Primark's Michelle McEttrick warned that brands could end up “retreating” from their sustainability commitments if the current trends continued. “Not only are brands who are greenhushing losing the opportunity to connect with and widen their customer base with customers who are more ethically and sustainability driven but it all risks real progress across industry,” she said. She noted it was the responsibility of scaled businesses to lead and be open about what they’re doing, even when things don’t go as planned. https://lnkd.in/egNXHcHY
