Growing pains? I love them. As a start-up founder, they’re a sign that you’ve moved on from the existential “Will we make it?” & towards stability & scalability questions: - Who are the right types of people for us to hire? - What do we want our culture to be? - Should we expand our offering in any way? - Do we have the right processes in place? One year ago, we didn’t have a team. And now it’s these conversations with that team at SonderCo that fuel me. Because growing pains signal growth.

Hiring. I don't get the difficulty people have with hiring. It's a simple process starting with this fun fact. We all get exactly who we deserve. If you run a shit company, with a shit culture, and poor leadership, look in the freaking mirror. YOU are the problem. If you don't believe me that hiring can be simple, then it will never be simple for you. If you want to know how to make it simple, I'm happy to share our hiring process through a hiring white paper. When it comes to hiring right now the industry doesn't seem to know whether to stick or twist, particularly in the pre-sales departments. Couple of companies who went through a horrid time last year and went through layoffs just had a monster January and now are looking to hire again, others are simply holding firm and overutilizing their pre-sales team. Early adopters are nearing the end of their initial agreements and new providers are looking to displace & provide a more favourable business case which is only going to lead to more activity in solutioning/pre-sales teams. Interesting couple months ahead. I am advising my clients to make 1/2 strategic hires in their pre-sales teams (people with no less than 5 years experience in the role) and add some time served industry experience to their teams. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Marconi Associates
