Can we use Naval Architecture to discuss the Olympics? I think so. The Olympic pool is 2.15m vs. 3m deep and there are complaints of a "slow pool". The physical reason discussed in the story linked makes some sense but I was wondering what else it could be. At first I thought it could be shallow water effects but looking at the dispersion relation and the speeds the wavelengths mean those two depths are functionally equivalent. What then?
