How do you improve company culture? Company culture is not just the words you put on your website in the “about us” section; it’s a scope of behaviors and attitudes the whole workforce, starting from the senior leadership to working students, exhibit in the workplace. Therefore, it can’t be changed by just printing out stickers with company values. But here are some ideas on how to actually affect it: 🧑🏻💼 Ensure better organizational alignment. When employees’ individual values are aligned with the values and objectives of a company, the performance skyrockets. 👩🏻🎤 Go beyond DEI and work on belonging. 94% of employees report that a sense of belonging in the workplace is somewhat to very important. Working with the senior leadership on establishing a space where employees’ voice matters will reap its benefits in an improved company culture. 💪🏻 Recognize hard work and achievements. Recognition plays a huge role in how your employees perceive the company. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need big monetary rewards to show your appreciation. Simply recognizing your teammates and/or subordinates in all-hands meetings or on your company’s social intranet can go a long way. 👸🏾 Coach your leaders to adopt the right leadership styles. Unsurprisingly, leadership style (whether of the senior leadership team or the middle managers) plays a huge role in company culture. 83% of employees at the 100 Best Companies say management’s actions match its words, versus 42% of employees at the average workplace. When employees see a high level of accountability in their leaders, they’re more likely to adopt the same behavior, which will naturally lead to improved company culture.
