For anyone who hasn’t watched Seinfeld’s DUKE commencement speech – DO IT!!! I loved it! 16 minutes of hilarity with Jerry dropping pearls of wisdom left and right. Well worth the few minutes!! Some highlights….. 1. Find something to do in life and put hard work into it; not everyone can find their “passion” 2. Follow your curiosity rather than passion 3. Hard work is never wasted 4. Fall in love with anything and everything – even the smallest things 5. Find something that you love the good parts and don’t mind the bad things too much – the torture you’re comfortable with. All good things that are worth it have a small amount of torture 6. Use your privilege – be proud of what you should be proud of 7. Work and Love are self justified in the experience regardless of the end point 8. Work is wonderful and you should do something where you don’t regret spending as much time as you do at work 9. Humor is essential to surviving life. Life is way too complex to survive it. It’s great to try and avoid offending people but not at the expense of losing any discomfort. Humor is the most powerful and survival essential quality you will ever have or need to navigate through the human experience 10. “I want to have the coolest job” is much more important than “I want to make a lot of money” Don’t think about “having” think about “becoming” – that is where it’s at. https://lnkd.in/dFnzZSwc

➡️Don't forget your sense of humor Jerry Seinfeld gave the graduation address at Duke University. His speech, simply amazing, insightful, and of course funny, is worth watching. Here are the messages I identified with the most: 1. Thell with “follow your passions.” It’s enough to find something... and then, do the best you can. 2. Find fascination – it’s good enough. 3. Pay attention to your surroundings and the organization you’re in. Recognize what’s happening BEFORE the “ship is about to sink.” 4. Work your ass off. 5. Fall in love. It’s easy to fall in love with someone; Jerry suggests falling in love with anything you can, your coffee, your shoes. Anything. "I spent my life paying attention to the little things in life," he says. 6. The most important ingredients in life are work, exercise, and relationships. They have an element of torture, but they’re worth it. 7. According to Seinfeld, All the sayings about no one regretting not working more in their life are nonsense. “Work is great. I worked a lot, every day of my life, and enjoyed every minute of it," he says. “The challenge is to find ‘cool’ work that you love being in.” 8. It’s nice that you care about not hurting others' feelings, just as people do in many different ways. 9. However, you should not lose your sense of humor. You’ll need it. Watch the speech. It's really funny and insightful: https://lnkd.in/dXDEtHqY #JerrySeinfeld

"We're embarrassed of things we should be proud of, and proud of things we should be embarrassed about." This pearl of an observation about contemporary woke culture is from the Commencement Address to the 2024 Duke University graduates by Jerry Seinfeld. Another one: "You're never going to believe this, but Harvard used to be a great place to go to school." In his brief address, Seinfeld gave his 3 keys to life, which are worthwhile contemplating as well. 1. Bust Your Ass - "Effort always yields a positive value even if the outcome of the effort is absolute failure of the desired result." 2. Pay Attention - "If you're in a small submersible that looks like a giant kazoo and going to visit the Titanic seven miles down at the bottom of the ocean, and the captain of the vessel is using a Gameboy controller, pay attention to that!" 3. Fall in Love - "Find something where you love the good parts and don't mind the bad parts too much. The torture you are comfortable with. This is the golden path to victory in life. Work, exercise, relationships - they all have a solid component of pure torture, and they are all 1000% worth it." Another golden nugget from Jerry: "I now have an honorary doctorate of humane letters degree from Duke University - and if I can figure out a way to use that, I will! I haven't figured anything out yet. I think its pretty much as useful in real life as this outfit I am wearing." Jerry Seinfeld | Duke's 2024 Commencement Address Source: https://lnkd.in/gR9upH6Q #funny #commencement #address #jerryseinfeld #lifelessons #worthwatching Highlights: I will give you my three real keys to life. They are number one. Bust your ass. Number two. Pay attention. Number three. Fall in love. 1. Number one. You obviously already know. Whatever you're doing, I don't care if it's your job, your hobby, your relationship. Getting a reservation at M Sushi. Make an effort. Just pure stupid. No real idea what I'm doing here effort. Effort always yields a positive value. Even if the outcome of the effort is absolute failure of the desired result. This is a rule of life. Just swing the bat and pray is not a bad approach to a lot of things. 2. Number two. Pay attention. If you're in a small submersible that looks like a giant kazoo and going to visit the Titanic seven miles down at the bottom of the ocean, and the captain of the vessel is using a Gameboy controller. Pay attention to that. What are you checking out down there? Oh, I see what happened. This ship sank. Now I understand why it never made it into port. If the fish where you are have eyes like Shelley Duvall and a bendy straw with a work blade hanging off their head, you do not belong there. If the fish are going, I can't see a goddamn thing. You won't either. 3. Number three, fall in love. It's easy to fall in love with people. I suggest falling in love with anything and everything. Every chance you get. Fall in love with your coffee, your sneakers, your blue zone parking space. I've had a lot of fun in life. Falling in love with stupid, meaningless physical objects. But the object I love the most is the clear barrel BIC pen, $1.29 for a box of ten. I can fall in love with a car turn signal switch that has a nice feel to it. A pizza crust that collapses with just the right amount of pressure. I have truly spent my life focusing on the smallest things imaginable, completely oblivious to all the big issues of living. Find something where you love the good parts and don't mind the bad parts too much. The torture you're comfortable with. This is the golden path to victory in life. Work. Exercise. Relationships. ... About work, You know how they always say nobody ever looks back on their life and wishes they spent more time at the office? Well, why? Why don't they? Guess what? Depends on the job. If you took a stupid job that you find out you hate and you don't leave, that's your fault. Don't blame work. Work is wonderful. I definitely will not be looking back on my life wishing I worked less. If that's not how you feel at work. Quit. On your lunch break. Disappear. Make people go. What happened to that guy? I don't know, he said he was getting something to eat. Never came back.

Jerry Seinfeld recently gave the Duke Commencement Speech. While he still remains one of the wittiest (and best looking) people in comedy, in between the jokes there are several "real keys to life" from Jerry that made me stop and and pause. Put simply, he says: 1. Let go of this idea that you need to find *shirt ripped open* passion. Find fascination. Fascination is way better than passion. 2. Bust your ass. Make an effort. Pure stupid "no real idea what i'm doing here, effort." Effort always yields a positive value. Just swing the bat and pray is not a bad approach to a lot of things. 3. Pay attention. [Worth just listening to him on this one.] 4. Fall in love. It's easy to fall in love with people. But fall in love with everything you possibly can. Find something where you love the good parts and don't mind the bad parts too much. The torture you're comfortable with. Have a watch and consider starting at minute 3:00. https://lnkd.in/gyKFRi8a

Being a massive Seinfeld fan growing up (and even now), I can’t help but to call out a few of the highlights that resonated for me from his Duke commencement speech a week ago. Firstly this gem: "Find something where you love the good parts & don't mind the bad parts too much, the torture you're comfortable with. This is the golden path to victory in life. Work. Exercise. Relationships. They all have a solid component of pure torture, & they are all 1000% worth it" I do believe that there has to be good parts that you love, otherwise what’s the point? Having some torture, some failure & struggle are all part of it & bring more meaning to the whole experience. Just make sure those parts don’t make up the full experience! Then this one (reduced slightly): “So obsessed with getting to the answer, completing the project, producing a result, which are all valid things. But not where the richness of the human experience lies. Stop rushing to what you perceive as some valuable endpoint. Learn to enjoy the expenditure of energy that may or may not be on the correct path.” I love this one & see it all the time. We become too outcome obsessed & miss all the fun & experience along the way. Then we wonder why the outcome doesn’t feel as good as it should, so we set a new outcome and the cycle continues. It’s in the doing, the creating of something, the pushing at the edges. Let’s savour that experience. Let’s make the way to the destination something magic, after all that’s where we spend most of our time! Thirdly this one: “Now, if you have been at this amazing place for 4 years and still have no idea what you like, what you’re interested in, or what you want to do in life, you are the luckiest ones here. Those of you who think that you know what you want to do are very likely wrong & perhaps even overestimating your ability to do it. You have convinced yourself that you know who you are & what’s going on in the world. You don’t know either. The less secure & confident you feel in the direction, the more surprises and excitement you will have in store. That’s good.” I like this from the perspective of not getting too attached to our path, our identity & our opinions at any stage of our life. Hold things more loosely, experiment more & don’t be so sure of having the answer or the one right way. And what better way to finish than this: “Do not lose your sense of humour. You can have no idea at this point in your life how much you are going to need it to get through. Not enough of life makes sense for you to be able to survive it without humour. You gotta laugh. That is the one thing at the end of your life you will not wish you did less of. Humour is the most powerful, most survival-essential quality you will ever have or need to navigate through the human experience.” True that. Let’s not be so earnest about it all. After all humour is often our best way through both good and bad times. Enough said. https://lnkd.in/gdvTQFf2

What are the three real keys to life? Amidst the disruption we’ve been hearing about on the campuses of higher education (at a time when we normally hear about celebration and accomplishment) this writer was thrilled to be able to watch the video of Jerry Seinfeld as the commencement speaker at Duke University. There are many powerful nuggets in the speech which I suggest you watch in its entirety. Below is one of my favorite parts. “These are the three real keys to life. They are number one, bust your ass, number two, pay attention, number three, fall in love. Number one, you obviously already know whatever you're doing. I don't care if it's your job, your hobby, a relationship, no real idea what I'm doing here, effort. Effort always yields a positive value. Even if the outcome of the effort is absolute failure of the desired result, this is a rule of life. Just ‘swing the bat and pray’ is not a bad approach to a lot of things. Number two, pay attention. If you are in a small submersible that looks like a giant kazoo and going to visit the Titanic seven miles down at the bottom of the ocean and the captain of the vessel is using a game boy controller, pay attention to that. What are you checking out down there? Oh, I see what happened. This ship sank. Now I understand why it never made it into port. If the fish where you are have eyes like Shelly Duval and a bendy straw with a work light hanging off their head, you do not belong there. If the fish are going, 'I can't see a goddamn thing,' you won't either. Number three, fall in love. It's easy to fall in love with people. I suggest falling in love with anything and everything. They all have a solid component of pure torture and they are all 1000% worth it.” My favorite is the reminder to fall in love with anything and everything. This is how we increase our Devotion Factor. When we're looking for what we love and exploring and heightening what we find once we activate this, we're adding immeasurable value. That is success. He is the epitome of figuring out what we are here to do and doing it. Seinfeld is devoted. That is the key. #LeadershipAdvisor #CollaborationSpecialist #TheDevotionFactor

This is among the most insightful and enjoyable commencement speeches I've ever heard: https://lnkd.in/eJ9HRjcC Some of my favorite highlights: "Just swing the bat and pray is not a bad approach to a lot of things." "Stop rushing to what you perceive as some valuable endpoint." "Find something where you love the good parts and don’t mind the bad parts too much." "So obsessed with getting to the answer, completing the project, producing a result which are all valid things, but not where the richness of the human experience lies." "Those of you that think you know what you want to do are very likely wrong, and perhaps even overestimating your ability to do it. You have convinced yourself that you know who you are and what’s going on in the world. You don’t know either." "We’re embarrassed about things we should be proud of and proud of things we should be embarrassed about." "The slightly uncomfortable feeling of awkward humor is okay. It’s not something you need to fix." "Most things do not work. Most things are not good." "Don’t think about having, think about becoming." "Try to enjoy some of the dumbness of it all."

DAY 3 Unveiling the Invisible Grandeur Today, I had the privilege of meeting some of the most creative & transformational minds on this planet. Afterward, I captured an image that beautifully embodies our shared vision. Given the presence of attorneys, I also incorporated this insight into today’s writing while preparing my notes: Reality is the fusion of shared perceptions where individual views united in a understanding weave personal truths into simulated universes. Forming & evolving, it endures by applying the weight of laws held sacred by the group. Thus, shaping common customs & crystallizing their universe through a collective BELIEF in the codes that define their shared reality—often rooted in personal survival desires meant to persist beyond unprocessed agreements or Natural Law. The inherent artificiality of these laws fosters resistance against this binding code, necessitating enforcement to maintain its integrity. The 33 Institute is here & we are poised to bring our vision to at-risk populations very soon. What was once deemed impossible & unseen is now within reach. Stay tuned for the transformation. Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth. RUMI Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.
