Target's Car Seat Trade-in program is one of my favorite sustainability programs out there. It takes some pretty bulky, non-biodegradable material out of landfills and gives customers a 20% off coupon in return!
-Gets customers into their stores
-Offers something in return to motivate people, doesn't just rely on their goodwill
-Gets the car seats to recyclers that can break them down and recycle the various materials.
All in a program that seems to do some real good and they put some money on the line (20% off coupons) to make it work.
It does make me think about how large the margins must be on baby gear for them to so freely hand out 20% off coupons. Just like the old Bed, Bath and Beyond model...
If you have a car seat, next week is the time to bring it to Target to get your coupon (or give it to a friend who is just entering the baby gear cycle)!

This is brand power Specialized Bicycle Components is aiming to get 1,000,000 bikes back on the road "Reduce Reuse ReSpecialized" and any brand, yes this will drive customer visits and generate extra sales. They will become the bike brand for Generation Alpha; they hate brands destroying the planet. Also, Gen Z is in almost full spending power and making an impact, my daughter apologised the other day for accidentally buying a snack bar with palm Oil in it. We will soon see these minor shifts move to the norm, and lots of brands are not ready, I see what my kids (19 & 22) are not buying anymore, Nestle being a big one avoided.
So my point is still the same: marketing can save the planet if it wants to.

Fifty million Americans ride their #bicycle every single year, a figure that has skyrocketed since the "Bike Boom" between 2020 and 2023, in which sales of bikes and accessories increased over 600%.
For every new rider on the road, there's two more tires that will eventually be disposed of. Liberty Tire Recycling and Trek Bicycle have partnered to tackle this growing recycling challenge with the new "Retire Your Tires" program at Trek retail locations across the country. Riders can drop off their used bicycle tires, free of charge, to be recycled into innovative, sustainable #RecycledRubber applications by Liberty.

Why ‘Switch or die’?
Because if your business isn’t in the business of finding and testing a serious post-fossil carbon business model it’s a ‘dead man walking’.
Regulators, the courts, top talent and public opinion - that fickle turn-on-a-dime monster - will eat you alive. But you know all that already.
It’s my theory that you want to change but you’re not sure where to start (and maybe a bit embarrassed to ask?).
So here are six really clear ways to switch demand away from high-intensity carbon, nature-damaging products brands and businesses.

1. SUBSTITUTE
Swap for a lower impact alternative. e.g. Take the train to Barcelona (with Byway). Probiotic surface cleaner eliminating petrochemical-based detergents. Hat tip to Unilever.
2. SOCIALISE
Get paid to deliver happiness, learning and personal growth to your customer. No mining or extraction required. Think Vitality health insurer and the parkrun
3. SHRINK
Effervescent pills not big bottles of fizzy liquid. Homemade yogurt from a D2C live cultures brand. Laundry sheets. We like Britvic plc’s Robinson concentrated mini squash dispensers.
4. SAVE
Refurb and repair, design for refurb and repair from the outset. Old electric car batteries being turned into storage capacity for when the sun don’t shine. Sneaker repairs (can’t get that fast enough for the 44 billion trainers going into landfill every year. That’s 1400 per second!!!! Runners Need are collecting old running kit instore.
5. SHARE
Why buy a drill when you can rent one. What about a car? A bike? Some B2B brands and some hardware ones are getting their heads around this, thank you Cambridge Library of Things Usership (not ownership) is going to be a multibillion dollar market within your lifetime.
6. STICK
Wherever you can, buy better, and choose carefully (thank you Tiffanie Darke) so you’re opting for quality and classic items with enduring value. And then keep that damn thing going as long as you can. And if moths are getting into your wardrobe, try the natural parasitic micro wasp treatment (!) from Dragonfli Limited

The car, representing a corporate brand,
is big and attention-grabbing.
