This is crazy! Mri safety week is not just about sharing stories of MRI accidents. 🗞️Don’t give me wrong these stories help us to better protect patients and other healthcare professionals from the power of the MRI scanner, but do they really help lower the incident rate of MRI accidents? 🧲As an MRI technologist, I can speak from firsthand knowledge of almost being pinned to a MRI scanner by a wheelchair because of negligence from a fellow Mri technologist. The stories I could share, but I won’t may shock you of how easy it is for an Mri accident to occur. 😳 Let’s take this week not only to educate the public about the power of a Mri scanner and how we can keep everyone safe during the MRI scan. Health comes first. I don't know anyone who enjoys an MRI, pounding noise, holding your breath, and contrast filling your vein. The test is necessary to learn if the body's condition has advanced or stayed the same. It's even better when a long-time friend, my nurse, took the best care of me as I faced the unknown. She rolled out the red carpet. I was promptly introduced to the technician and the radiologist. I observed this group perform with the utmost professionalism, care, and concern. The results were stat, carefully explained, and better than expected. What a relief. Now, I move on to more tests and take each one at a time. #selfcare #healthcare #test #healthcoach

I’ve put patients onto cardiac monitoring countless times in my career, but every single time this saying plays in my head. Any patient can be placed on a cardiac monitor in the Emergency Department. Those with complaints of chest pain, shortness of breath, abnormal vital signs, or are critically ill and have high risk of decompensating should always be placed on a cardiac monitor with proper, audible alarm parameters set. This 5 lead configuration displays leads I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF, and V.
