Definitely going down a kuwahara filter rabbit hole again to study stylized techniques to explore in Maya/Nuke.
Want to join me on that journey? It's definitely one you can't turn away from once you start haha. I've been really falling in love with stylized looks ever since Spiderverse, but Mitchells VS The Machines really ignited that passion to a whole new level especially when they shared their breakdown, it made me realize that I could learn to do this too! And then since then there's like 20 new films/shortfilms and inspirations that I could make 50 posts about.

If you enter just "Kuwahara filter" on youtube you'll then get a whole algorithm of stuff recommended to you from Blender, Nuke, Maya, (good to search stuff like "watercolor filter Nuke" or "Kuwahara filter customization tutorials" then let your brain do a ton of reading. It'll then lead you to some blinkscript tutorials in Nuke, and then the opportunities become endless. The more youtube links you click, engage with and interact with based on that subject, the more you'll get, until your entire feed looks like a Van Gogh painting. Can't complain about that though.
Have fun :)

Dear friends and colleagues, here’s a film clip/video compilation I made for an anti-War song I wrote/recorded/released (Satellite 202X {Paha Sapa Prayer}). It is somewhat of a remix re #Gaza#CeasefireNOW, the insanity of Endless War and Military Industrial Conflict War Profiteering and the complicity of Australia in the #Genocide via the involvement of US Spy Base Pine Gap (near Alice Springs), inter alia.
Bearing in mind I was using very basic video editing software (ie not Premier Pro but iMovie 🤦🏻♂️🙃🎞️ 🎥) and had limited time…
This film clip/video compilation uses cartoon/comic strip FX as a medium/communication device:
- to explore the threshold between truth and fiction in war and the human brain’s incomprehension of the the unpalatable realities of war;
- to sanitise the image of the terror of war both to attempt to (symbolically) mitigate viewer discomfort (in order to get the message through/so they don’t switch off) but also so challenge the denialistic default setting of the human brain for compartmentalising/fictionalising/denying difficult/traumatic realities and thereby exploring the juxtaposition of cartoon/comic strip imagery with real raw war footage;
- as a comment on the dehumanisation of innocent victims of war as embodied by and expressed in the #WeAReNotNumbers project/campaign by Palestinian Scholar, Writer and Poet Professor @Refaat Alareer;
- as a comment on the tendency of the human brain to compartmentalise the traumatic information of the reality of war (probably due to being overloaded with traumatic information of profound injustice and thereby evoking a panoply of emotions from profound outrage, to deep sadness, to profound resolve, to decisive action at all costs etc) thereby dehumanising the innocent victims of war and reducing the reality to a severely sanitised conception comparable to a computer game or a cartoon.
Having said that I have not included the really graphic images of injured/dead children which has been filling up my feed in Twitter/X, LinkedIn, FB, IG etc (one of the substantive benefits of the digital economy being the contemporaneous capture of the realities of War and evidence of #WarCrimes#Genocide).
Needless to say, endless war is insane for a variety of rational and reasonable reasons especially in the current unstable geo-political and ecological context of our World...
In the video description I have included my notes from my rather despondent speech at the #CeaseFireNow rally in Meanjin/Brisbane on 10 December 2023 - otherwise (previously?) known as International Human Rights Day…
Yes #LestWeForget, but I think most of us have forgotten…🤔
