One of my favourite things to encourage students to do for Alt Marketing School certification is share their learnings in PUBLIC 📣 When students share their work publicly, magic happens ⤵️ Peer Learning 💛 Everyone gets a chance to learn from each other's insights, challenges, and solutions. Immediate Feedback 💛 It's about giving and receiving feedback on the fly, which supercharges the learning process. But here's the kicker ⤵️ Public Homework is GREAT for your marketing too 🤫 A gallery of projects, insights, and breakthroughs from your students, all out there for the world to see. It's a GREAT way to showcase growth and evidence of the impact your cohort has. Conquering the Pitch: From Dev to Dealmaker Developers, we all know the struggle: coding a good product is relatively easier than marketing. Vulnerable share and a major ah-ha moment: My big push over the last few months was to enroll folks into my three month mentorship program starting in January, but somehow the messaging just isn’t landing. It made me wonder. Is it the title? Is it the concept? Is it the container? Is it not getting to the intended audience? Could be one or more of those things. Something that I know for sure is, Operations aren’t sexy. On the surface, they don’t bring in the high ROI or feel as though they support the business growing. And I get it! When I’m in the thick of marketing and wanting to sign more clients, my own operations are the first to fade to the background. But the honest truth is that nothing will ever feel easeful, stress free, or make sense in your business if your operations are left to the wayside. The businesses that are able to scale and grow without the wheels falling off are the ones with SOPs, processes, systems, and automations. They have roadmaps and a clear vision of what will get them to the finish line. They have well trained team members who align with the company’s mission in the right seat, doing the right job, to support the overall vision. They aren’t doing it all alone, with endless manual steps, and fighting to keep their heads above water. If you’re ready to take your biz to a whole new level in 2024, let’s chat. Today marks the end of my adventure at TeachFX. 💙 I am so proud of the work that Roshni Patel, Bruce Herring, and I did together. (Seriously, go take a look at all the amazing video stories that Bruce produced. They're on YouTube, the website, IG, LI, & FB. And I wish you could see the magic that is Roshni's marketing / revenue / sales operations superpower, but just know that the fact we even were able to produce at the data-informed quality, quantity, & speed we did was because we added Roshni to the team.) I remain so inspired by the amazing educators on the TeachFX team. I learned so much from you, Becky Poskin, Resego Mooki, Joseph Hyun, Rakiya Brown, Scott Wolf, M.Ed., Alyssa Van Camp, Ph.D. You are brilliant and you're doing more amazing work than I could even try to describe here. The same goes for the amazing educators I connected with in the field. And ruckus makers like Danny Bauer helping those educators create change. I can't say enough about the partnership I had with Laurence Hall. We all know marketing & sales leaders who fall into the cliche marketing<>sales stuff, and that makes it even more awesome when you're not that. (We even got to talk about it on Sean Lane's Operations podcast last year, still one of my favorites.) I'm grateful to have been on this journey with Jamie Poskin, from a seed-stage startup to a Series A; the iterations of our understanding of who we're built for, how we grow this thing, and even who we need on the team to make it happen. And that brings me to Eric Berson, Ph.D., whose sharp focus, inquisitive mind, clear communication skills, eye for detail, and facilitative leadership style have helped propel us all forward. I still believe in the power and potential of this technology to help change the world for the better. As a wise person has said many times, everything starts with a conversation. Helping educators create more conversational classrooms is incredibly important, and will become more so. Berk Coker and Jacob Klein and the product team will build the thing that changes the world. It was here at TeachFX that I had my epiphany that edtech b2b is ~not~ b2b. It's mission-to-mission. And I owe that realization to the commitment and dedication that this team has to their own mission, and to that mission igniting and amplifying our educators' own missions. What's next? I love putting my marketing mind to work in education. I'm having some interesting conversations about what my next adventure might be. I'm also open to adding additional founders to my advisory practice. So reach out if you'd like to work with me or know someone who might, either full-time or in a consulting capacity. My content has gotten 171,210 impressions since the start of the year. Here are the 3 things I would tell someone who's getting started: 1. Just get going Imposter syndrome is real. Staring at a blank page sucks. Overcoming perfectionism is hard. But here’s the thing: No one cares as much as you think they do. Think of yourself as learning out loud. And just get started. 2. Steal like an artist Identify the “attention masters” of your niche. Analyze their top performing content. Try to pinpoint why it works. Really study the content. And then: Put your own unique spin on it. 3. Learn the science of persuasion To get the most out of your content, you need to understand psychology. Learn how to prime your audience with PREsuasion. Master what makes people stop and take action. I finally started consistently creating content that captures attention thanks to Katelyn Bourgoin 🧠 and Neal O'Grady 🍉's Unignorable Challenge.
