Studies are showing that now, more than ever, patients value strong relationships with their providers, yet there seems to be a disconnect—while this is a high priority, many patient-provider relationships aren't quite as strong as patients would like. Patients have reported that trust can be built through clear communication, streamlined operations, and a heavier focus and emphasis on patient experience and outcomes as opposed to simply treatment. Recent studies even support the notion that empathy plays a role in the patient experience and in patient outcomes as well—patients with empathetic providers who also prioritize meaningful relationships tend to heal faster and report less pain.
