A plan is not a strategy.
Watch out for the 'strategic planning' trap:
𝟭/ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆
'Strategic Planning' sounds cool but there is often no strategy in it.
𝟮/ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀
Strategy is about coherent choices, but plans can be disparate lists.
𝟯/ 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
With plans, we are effectively our own customer, can control resources with relative certainty, and usually always say we delivered to plan.
𝟰/ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
In strategy, the customer is external and we can't control their reactions with certainty, hence why we may have angst and default to planning.
𝟱/ 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻, 𝗮 𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆
As we're busy making plans all the time, someone out there will be doing strategy and figuring out how to win and erode our market share.
