Dear network, I am thrilled to share that I recently completed the externship focused in On-Premise Sales & Marketing activities at Red Bull! This experience has been incredibly enriching and has provided me with valuable insights and skills. During this time, I had the opportunity to: Leverage Excel: I utilized Excel to visualize and analyze the performance of our on-premise clients, identifying which clients are excelling and which may need more support. Communicate Insights: I communicated these observations with the Red Bull team, shedding light on the factors contributing to the varying performance levels of different clients. Overcome Objections: By employing active listening and social proof techniques. This hands-on experience has deepened my understanding of sales & MK strategies paired with client relationship management. Before my internship at Walmart this past summer, I didn’t know much about networking. Then, Ben Markl challenged me to go crazy with it, and that’s exactly what I did! I met everyone from managers to Walmart’s CEOs and honestly, it felt like I was networking my way to a championship. But let’s not talk about that. Let’s talk about what happens after the networking magic. It’s one thing to make the connection; it’s another to stay in touch. Now, I know, staying in touch with people can feel like keeping up with a scoreboard—just ask Vanderbilt after last weekend’s shocker (I’m still recovering over here, Roll Tide forever). But seriously, I reach out to my Walmart connections every month. I check in, give them a quick update, ask how things are going back in NWA, and, most importantly, I listen. Networking isn’t just about getting a foot in the door—it’s about keeping the conversation going, even when your team loses and you’re rethinking all your life choices (like not being a Vandy fan… kidding!). So, if you’re out there making connections, don’t forget to follow up, keep it casual, and keep building. You never know when a simple check-in might lead to a win down the road—something I could really use after last weekend’s game!" What was your best summer job? And what did you learn? Way back when, I worked in a women’s clothing store for several summers. And while my original focus was on socializing and the store discount, I learned lessons that have stayed with me to this day. First, it was an epic education in the world of corporate retail: why certain stores get attention and better inventory … and what that means for the employees. Second, it taught me how to be authentic in the workplace. Though back then, I was an extrovert, sales felt weird to me! But I learned that when I placed my focus on helping people–on being authentic–the sales followed. And while my career trajectory didn't include much in sales, the focus on helping people has served me in every job since. I believe it’s so important for teens to have summer jobs. It’s not just a chance to learn soft skills like time management and determination, they allow teens to test drive who they want to be and what they might desire in a career. #SummerJobs #FirstJobs #retail #teens

This morning Maggie Mitchell at SiriusXM joined my class at New York University to discuss her role in #CorporateCommunications, and why it's important to recognize you don't have to pick one passion in life. There were so many great lessons baked into Maggie's presentation (and she's definitely a crowd favorite that will be returning!), but a couple of takeaways that resonated with me are: 1. You don't always get the dream job at first. When I graduated from college I...didn't have a job lined up. I spent hours day after day in local coffee shops and libraries applying to internships on LinkedIn. (I even began studying for my real estate license in-case a career in communications didn't pan out.) And I hustled once I got a job. I said yes to everything for my clients. Bringing coffee and donuts to newsrooms. Delivering pizza in Brooklyn. Finding iced teas and dragging them into the city from my apartment in Rockland County. A client or manager asked, I did it. Working on a new business pitch? Yes, I absolutely am interested in working on that pitch! I also didn't give up. When I applied to Ruder Finn I interviewed with a team and didn't get the job. That sucked. Weeks later another role came up on another team, and I got a job offer. I applied to more jobs than I could count at Edelman. It took years interviewing for three different roles for me to land a job there. None of these were final a "no," it was just a "no" for right now. 2. Connections matter. The point of my guest speakers are to help my students build a professional network to lean on before they even have to. I cannot stress enough how incredible of a platform LinkedIn has been for me to build meaningful connections with people, relationships that have resulted in job offers for myself or others. Here's some fascinating data from Handshake about the rise of intern hiring in pro sports (link below). The Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Green Bay Packers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are among the top pro sports employers posting internships on Handshake recently. Other cool data: - Pro sports internships have risen 300% since 2020. - The top jobs among sports employers are in retail, the front office, media / entertainment / art, tech, sales, and marketing - Top locations for sports jobs on Handshake have included Minneapolis, Boston, Los Angeles, and cities throughout the Midwest - On Handshake, sports-related job searches rose drastically from 2022-2023: sports marketing searches rose ~23%, sports media rose ~22%, sports analytics rose 15%, and sports management rose ~14% Read more below.

Field Travel ✈️ In the last three weeks, I have been traveling with territory managers in Dallas, visiting accounts with them. We started by focusing on the builder side of the business, selling to builders and flooring contractors. Last week, we were in the retail setting, managing the accounts of retail stores and wholesalers. Being face-to-face with customers each day has provided invaluable insights and experience in navigating product pitches, critical thinking, and handling objections. My biggest takeaway thus far is the importance of truly understanding how customers’ businesses operate. This consultative approach has made selling feel like what it is—problem-solving. By building quality relationships that understand the pain points, goals, and successes customers have, we can step in and provide effective solutions that help others succeed. #shawindustries #outsidesales #intern

🌟 Maximizing My Internship Experience at Ross🌟 I’m thrilled to share how my internship at Ross is helping me develop valuable skills on the sales floor. One of my key responsibilities involves gathering clothes from the fitting rooms and returning them to their rightful places on the sales floor, as well as managing returned items from the registers. This task is more than just a routine; it’s a crucial part of enhancing my understanding of the store layout and inventory management. By organizing and restocking items, I'm becoming more familiar with where everything is located, which greatly improves my ability to assist customers effectively.
