Optimal Counsel LLP's 2L Summer Fellowship kicked off this year in June, with the excellent Cole Horton joining us this summer from Duke. We're now reviewing applications for Summer 2025 and encourage any interested rising 2Ls to e-mail us at careers@optimalcounsel.com with a Resume and 1L Transcript. Details about career opportunities at Optimal, including our recruiting requirements, are available here: https://lnkd.in/gZBQpZV8 A lot of elite boutique law firms like to pretend that the *absence* of junior attorneys is some kind of positive. We fully disagree and have disagreed for a very long time. Some of our (now) senior attorneys have been with our team since their 2L year in law school and we're all the better for having those "lifers" on our team. For boutique law firms to scale and play a meaningful role in the market, they must recruit and train juniors. And with the right technology and learning infrastructure, having those juniors around maximizes efficiency for clients, who don't need or want Partners doing "the basics" when a well-trained junior will do. Our 2L Fellow program is a win for our firm and a win for high-performing ambitious law students who want something different (*very* different) from the classic BigLaw path.

Founder & CEO of Lateral Hub & Summer Associate Hub | Fenwick + Cleary Gottlieb Alum | Tech Transactions Attorney
I was speaking with a law school career services advisor last week, who articulated it perfectly: "Students just want to know what firms are looking for." So, a few days later, we had a blog post published on our Summer Associate Hub platform, "What Do Firms Look For?" Of all the advice we give students in our content about interviewing, networking, navigating pre-OCI recruiting, etc - this blog post goes back to basics and answers this key question. TLDR: firms are not looking for knowledge of the black-letter law or wizard-like legal analysis. As a student looking for a 2L summer associate position, you only have one year of law school under your belt. The 1L curriculum is intellectually stimulating, but is not indicative of the life or substance of a job as a BigLaw attorney. Instead, firms look for the skills that make up the building blocks of a successful attorney. --Genuine interest in learning new things (and the firm's practices) --Good judgment --That you are someone that team members want to spend time with when it's the middle of the night and you are signing a deal that has been going on for weeks and kind of stressful (which requires a positive attitude) - I've heard Jonah Perlin refer to this as the "Toledo Test" - is this someone you want to be stuck in Toledo with on a business trip? (No shade to Toledo.) --You take initiative --Attention to detail --Team player --Ability to explain complex concepts clearly Instead of trying to prove that you are a natural-born lawyer who was reading SCOTUS dissents for fun at age 6, and that you worked as an intern for that law firm in your hometown 4 years ago because you have undying passion for law, students should use their application materials and the interview process to showcase these characteristics from their prior experiences in school and at work. And convey to the firm why those characteristics make the student a great fit to be a successful attorney at the firm. This is certainly not an exhaustive list. Anything you think should be added? #lawfirms #lawstudents #biglaw #lawschool

Texas Pre-Recruiting Post No. 8: Important and Last Post for a while! I'm headed to Puerta Vallarta tomorrow for our family summer trip so I'll be out next week. Sidley Austin 2L applications are open today (Dallas and Houston). Remember, Sidley Houston is majority corporate. The litigators are in Dallas. White & Case Houston: June 11th Summer Reception - RSVP by June 5 Tomorrow is June 1st. Most Texas firms will open their 2L summer applications tomorrow. I recommend discussing your 1L cumulative grades with career services and requesting a list of firms that would be a match for your grades. If you message me on LI, I'm happy to advise you on firms. However, I need the following information to respond. Law School, 1L cumulative GPA and rank, city preference in TX, practice area preference (I need to know if you are leaning towards corporate or litigation). Good luck to all the 2Ls going through the process!

Exciting news! I've been accepted into the 3-week summer intensive in Legal Technology & Operations at the Bucerius School of Law in Hamburg, Germany! As someone who's passionate about the intersection of law and technology, I can't wait to dive deeper into the impact of artificial intelligence on the legal field and the world at large. My interest in A.I. and its potential in the legal industry inspired me to start "The No BS A.I. Law Blog" this semester. My goal is to encourage law students and professionals without science backgrounds to explore the legal tech space. I firmly believe that technology, data, and A.I. will play a crucial role in the future of legal debate. Join me on this journey by checking out my blog (launching soon), and stay tuned for updates on my experience at Bucerius School of Law this summer! #LegalTech #ArtificialIntelligence #FutureOfLaw #BuceriusSchoolOfLaw

We recognize the immense value of mentorship in shaping the careers of law students and enhancing the experiences of our summer associates. That's why during our Summer Associate Program, we pair our summers with both a partner mentor and an associate mentor, to foster a supportive and growth-oriented environment. In their blog for Vault, Andrea Yang and Brooke Ross share more about how our summer associates are supported through mentorship and also include practical tips for law students and summer associates on how to get the best out of their mentor relationships. The Jr Partner Program What is it: it's raw, real , relevant. Who is it offered to: Law Students, College Students, and even HS Students What is it's mission: open, own, operate, lead your own law firm from day 1, or own one and lead it even if not an attorney in collapsed time. I bring 30 plus years to the table here, over 35-50k clients and consults leading clients, teams, myself, with not just one, but two law firms. There are 1.3M active attys in the U.S. There are not 1.3M leaders. You students will sit at the table , with me, and do everything I do in real time either at this office or via Zoom. You WILL make life or death decisions. This is NOT a sissy internship where you are placed in a corner. Not happening. This Impossible Game is to build 1M litigators who own and lead their own law firms from the day one. Stop the fear that you cannot do it. Yes you can. But you must be ruthlessly committed to it. DM me or email me at brycedneier@gmail.com The world is a dumpster fire because of the Legal Matrix, and we need Legal Warriors to battle the insanity. It's your path to freedom. In closing, Jesus will save your soul, but here on earth, you have to save yourself. You can only do that from a position of strength in the domains of body, being, balance, and business, and living and operating the Warrior's Way. The End.
