🌟 Exciting developments in palliative care! A recent article highlights the transformative impact of embedding palliative care practitioners in emergency departments (EDs). A pilot program at Corewell Health demonstrated significant improvements in patient outcomes, including reduced inpatient mortality, readmissions, and ICU utilization, all while lowering overall costs. This innovative approach not only enhances patient care but also boosts staff satisfaction. Palliative care plays a crucial role during critical moments in the healthcare journey, particularly in the ED, where timely goals-of-care conversations can profoundly influence treatment paths. Research indicates that health systems can realize a 6.7% ROI by integrating palliative care in the ED. At Tuesday Health, we are committed to advancing palliative care solutions that empower patients and healthcare providers alike. Bruce Leff and his Hospital at Home Users Group colleagues make a strong and clear case for why hospital at home is safe, effective and preferred by patients and families and needs a multi-year extension so many more patients can access this more humane care delivery model. This sentence sums it up well: "Hospital at home is the keystone of this future home-based care ecosystem. It’s time to claim the future." https://lnkd.in/eUMcUR2e

7moOur great friend chose to go from the palliative ward at St Peter's to a hospice to die to allow for even more visitors/family (and dog!) and a slightly less medical environment...but I know she felt supported and heard on your ward, and by you. You have great insight (and high emotional intelligence) when expressing how a hospital palliative care ward should and can be used appropriately. Thank you.
