Every now and again a Med Device Sales role... Comes down to 2 final candidates... Here's my favorite tiebreaker...👇 If you've ever been to an NFL tailgate.... You'll notice the young sales people... moving through the crowd... selling Peanut M&M's. They go to Costco or Sams Club... Buy a big ole box of 100 bags. Fundraisers. They work their way through the crowd. Asking nicely. Smiling. Competing with loud music, Bud light, and BBQ's. Not an easy sell. But the good ones sell out fast. The good ones charge $5 instead of $2. The good ones never even leave Lot A. Here's the tiebreaker: If I were to give the 2 finalists a giant box of M&M's... 100 bags each.. send them to a Steelers v. Browns Tailgate... Who can sell the most? Who can be the most profitable? Who can be the most efficient? Who can handle the rain? The snow? The heat? Who can influence? Who can just friggin sell? Why? That tiebreaker has never failed, BTW. Sales candidates who proactively communicate and do so with gratitude rock! I've received a text and a phone call this morning from excited Careers in Aesthetics LLC candidates. One just landed the position 2 weeks ago and sent me a thank you text of her getting a treatment performed at her clinical training. This candidate went above and beyond throughout the interview process. She sent a thank you video to her hiring manager after her 1st interview explaining why she was the perfect fit. She proactively let us know how each interview went and asked for advice. Candidate number 2 called me to let me know how excited and prepared he was for the interview today. We had a 30 minute prep call last week and he still reached out to make sure there wasn't anything else he could do. 90% of our placements over the last 3 years have been similar. They are proactive commuicators, responsive, grateful, and amped about the opportunity. This is why our retention rate is high. Want to land a medical device role? Find yourself a “champion”. This is what reps have to do to close deals in the hospital. We have to find clinical “champions” to support us and provide a business case on both of our behalves. To land a job, find somebody with some influence and sell yourself so they can help sell YOU to the final decision maker. This could be a senior rep, a trusted recruiter, a hiring manager from a different area, or even a VP. The higher up you go, the more influence they could have on the decision. Whatever you do, don’t simply apply to a ton of jobs or talk to a rep or two. Sell yourself to everyone and ask for their support moving forward.
