This initiative embodies our unwavering commitment to excellence, safety, and innovation in our operations. Riding the rails provides us with an unparalleled perspective on the intricate dance that makes our service not just operational but exceptional. It's a time for reflection, collaboration, and forward-thinking as we traverse the landscape that we serve. 🌉🏞️ 🔍 Each curve and straight-away inspection, every project reviewed, brings us closer to the core of our mission: delivering safe, reliable, and efficient transportation to the communities we serve. It's a physical and metaphorical journey toward improvement and excellence. This experience reinforces the importance of leadership visibility and engagement in the field. It's a reminder that to lead effectively, we must be willing to get our hands dirty, to see and understand the challenges and triumphs of our operations firsthand. 👀🤝 🌟 Let this be a call to action for us all to seek out and embrace opportunities for hands-on leadership. To innovate, we must immerse ourselves in the environments we wish to improve, engaging directly with the work, the people, and the communities involved. When I talk about the management rut, I like to equate it to a person walking on railroad tracks. They step on the wood planks in between the rails and walk at a comfortable pace. They’re following the direction of the tracks, looking down, and not seeing much in front of them or anything to the side of them outside of the rails. By doing that, they don’t have the vision to look at the various factors that could be affecting what they’re doing. If they’re not looking at the sky they won’t know if it’s going to rain. If they don’t look behind them, they might not know a train is coming. When they’re walking within the railroad tracks, they are in a rut because they’re not looking at anything other than what’s right in front of them. If you are not taking the time to move outside the rails of the railroad tracks to talk to people, understand their concerns, and work for the betterment of the company, you are not going to be an effective manager or leader. Too many times, people are oblivious to the reality that surrounds them. If you’re walking down the railroad tracks and hear a sound in the distance, you need to make a choice between staying on the tracks or getting off before the train hits you. The sound of the train coming is your wake-up call, but it’s up to you to decide what to do next. #PursuitOfExcellence #MarcHelm #Leadership #Rut #ManagementRut

Listen here! “The future of commuter rail from future leaders” Part 1 of 3. 🚀 12 months ago, I embarked on a journey to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow with a groundbreaking proof of concept scheme. In Futuro, we gathered a subset of the exceptional group of high-flying individuals, each displaying the potential to shape the future. And let me assure you, there are many more luminaries where they came from. Amandeep Sogi Caroline S. James Donnelly Jessica Hall 🌐 Fueled by a vision of collaborative excellence, we seamlessly integrated these rising stars into a cohesive team. Together, they embraced collective decision-making and assumed shared responsibility, mirroring the proven problem-solving approaches of industry giants such as Bain, BCG, and McKinsey. 🧠 Empowered with a challenge-driven mindset, they set out to develop and agree on innovative proposals that tackled the complex issues we presented to them. Their journey was not solitary; instead, it was enriched by exposure to global best practices sourced not only from within their industry but also from diverse sectors, exemplified by an eye-opening visit to Giugiaro GFG Style 🌐 Our approach extended beyond boundaries, connecting these emerging leaders with a broader community of "fellow travellers" such as Callum Swanston and David Franklin. This exchange of ideas and experiences was instrumental in fostering a holistic understanding of leadership dynamics. ✨ Today, I am proud to witness the tangible impact of this initiative. This is Part 1 of 3, I'm sure you'll find it fascinating to listen to. #LeadershipDevelopment #Innovation #FutureLeaders #CollaborativeExcellence #GlobalBestPractices

One of our primary goals at Fleet News is to help fleet decision-makers become better leaders. The role of the fleet manager has become far more strategic and the person in the hot seat needs to be able to form strategy based on the goals and future plans of the broader business, know how to influence and engage key stakeholders, learn new skills and adapt to a changing environment. In all these instances, they - you - are the ones leading the discussion. You are people managers and change managers; you consult on energy usage and funding options; you are supply chain managers and you are the crucial juncture within a business where all departments – finance, HR, procurement, legal, operations – meet. For far too long, fleet managers have been seen as disposable, a role which can be outsourced. And some companies undoubtedly still feel that way. Thankfully, many others have realised that a high-quality professional fleet manager offers numerous benefits for their business. Cost, legal compliance, CSR, wellbeing, risk, decarbonisation - all are strings to the fleet manager’s bow; all are opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation by having an outstanding fleet operation. Our latest report will help you on that journey to outstanding leadership, with continuous improvement. #fleetleader #fleetnews #fleetmanagement #fleetmanager #fleet

Earlier this month, the Railway Supply Institute (RSI) hosted a pivotal Passenger Rail Leadership Summit to address the pressing challenges in the passenger rail supplier sector. Industry leaders focused on stronger advocacy and unified reform efforts, discussing fair contracting practices, managing cost inflation and lifecycle costs, and federal funding and procurement reform. RSI is committed to leveraging its relationships with Congress, FTA, and FRA to push for legislative and regulatory changes, ensuring passenger rail suppliers' voices are heard. This effort is crucial for driving the industry forward and maintaining the U.S. market's viability.

There are hidden costs of a wrong CEO hire. Luckily, it's possible to avoid it… Sometimes an employee's strength in one role… — can be a weakness after promotion. It's especially noticeable (and damaging) if they become CEO. Roderick Jones, former CEO and current Executive Chairman of Concentric, faced this challenge in 2017 when he promoted a trusted employee to CEO. Despite success at his previous position, the new leader struggled to adapt. He surrounded himself with “Yes–men” and lacked a clear vision. For Concentric, this lead to: - Lost clients - Eroded trust - Declining revenue After 14 months, Roderick stepped back in as CEO to rebuild client relationships and reset the company culture. The experience taught him that skills excelling in one position don't always translate to top leadership. Roderick’s advice? Look for curiosity and vision in CEO candidates — but heed early warning signs. The best leaders have a strong "North Star" guiding their decisions. Want to learn how Concentric overcame this setback and thrived?
