❗Notify Me Weekly Update ❗ Hi all 🌻, here is a Notify Me update for this week: 📣 Updates: 🔹We have 1973 users (+31 since the last update) 🔹Number of paying users: 4 (+0 since the last update) 🔹MRR: $24.96 🔹Monthly costs on GCP: ~$67.11 (it still needs time to adjust the projection; our cost should be about 50% down by the end of the month); Hetzner: $13.18 (this includes everything we host there, some things unrelated to Notify Me) 🔹We finally migrated prod scrapers to Hetzner; this should reduce our costs by about 50%. We are currently running 8 scrapers non-stop for $5.99 A MONTH. Google Cloud setup was capped at 7 scrapers max, and all of them were serverless - which meant slower startup time and slower responses in general. 🔹False positive detection is in development, and we should hopefully be able to reduce false alerts which happen when content is changed (e.g., “4 days ago” → “3 days ago” type of changes) 🔹Traffic from Reddit is still going strong, and that’s reflected in 31 new users this week. Our SEO efforts are also paying off with the increased impression count. 🔹Competition Tracker will be ready for testing by the end of this week. ✅ Do’s: When building new products, speed is of the essence, of course, but at least try to set up a good foundation - especially with deployment automation and somewhat good programming practices. It will take you 3-4 days instead of a couple of hours, but it will pay off in the long run. ❌ Don’ts: Don’t underestimate the importance of formal education. A bunch of this might seem irrelevant or straight up useless, but a few years in the future you’ll be in a situation where some of that knowledge really comes in handy. The #LetsGo OSS project I shipped a while ago provides B2B software startups with reference architecture and tooling to accelerate development and eliminate technical debt when building apps in #AWS. The latest release adds support for running asynchronous jobs on a schedule (CRON) and enhances the web component with the dependency on shadcn/ui component library for #nextjs. Google-powered AI code completion and assistance tool is out! Gemini Code Assist is rebranded and updated version of Duet AI service that become available in late 2023. With Code Assist company moved the service away from its Codey model to Gemini. Overall Code Assist is a direct rival to GitHub's Copilot Enterprise, even more so than the Duet AI version, due to a few twists unique to Google. One of these twists supported for Gemini 1.5 Pro - a million-token context window for more-accurate code suggestions, and the ability to reason over and change large chunks of code. Another example is support of codebases in GitLab, GitHub and Atlassian’s BitBucket, as well as those that may be split between different services.
