Starting to find the process of creating video games way more interesting than playing them... games made by others are stunning, beautiful, full of great ideas. But just barely and slowly scratching the surface of my own ideas and ability to implement them is exciting.

RULES OF THE GAME. ■Too many rules may make your game unplayable. ■Too few rules may make your game so simple as to be unchallenging. ■Poorly communicated rules may confuse or alienate players. ■ Even in digital games, where the rules are kept by the program, players need to clearly understand the rules so they do not feel cheated. NB: Understand the rules and play like no one else.

Our newest video is on a fan-made fighting game called Dong Dong Never Die. While the game itself is interesting, the story of how it has changed some of the various developers that have worked on its many iterations is just as interesting and further shows how great video games can be. In this golden age of video game adaptations, source material must be respected... but only 3 in 10 gamers are looking for a direct adaptation, giving creators liberty to explore, expand and evolve the narrative (think Frank and Bill in The Last of Us). Just because it is innovative it doesn’t mean it is good. Interesting, shocking even, research paper from the USA on vapes with video games integrated into them. ▶ One device contains a fighter jet shooter game, a Pac-Man-type game, and a Tetris-style puzzle ▶ Another has an online casino game, a virtual pet that users can feed with food earned by puffing, and a puff count competition. The puff count competition gamifies the vaping experience and encourages users to take more puffs to earn points and compete with other users. See https://lnkd.in/ekhM-Hk4 for the abstract.
